Wild Swings

After some ridiculously warm weather last weekend where it felt like summertime had arrived, the wild swings of Mother Nature are now taunting us with winter weather once again. We had about three inches of snow the other day, unpredicted I might add. The snow was beautiful.

Tomorrow they are forecasting 3-6 inches of snow (trying to be more accurate in the guessing). No matter what, the birds continue to sing and the daffodils continue to grow. You and I both know it will melt quickly.

Besides the weather swinging wildly, my knitting mojo has ramped up to normal production. Oh how wonderful it is to be knitting and enjoying my knitting. There is nothing like it in the world. I'm on the hunt for a baby sweater pattern and will probably use an old printed pattern that my mom used for when my kids were babies. I just have to locate the pattern!

I finished reading, The Girl from the Train by Irma Joubert and it was really good. I wasn't expecting to be so engaged in the plot so that was a nice result. I can't remember if I mentioned this or not but I moved many books that I have not read and am trying to read them and then move them out of my house. Most of the books were picked up at used book sales for $1 and I thought why not and bought them! Once I'm done reading them I can trade them in at a used bookstore or donate them.

The move has made me re-think my habits of keeping possessions and accumulating 'stuff'. We decluttered so many things, I don't want to ever do that again.  The same with my yarn stash, I paid a moving company to move the stash, now I want to USE the stash. I might always have a blanket on the needles just to use up all that yarn.

  1. I like your thoughts about not collecting too much clutter! Moving certainly makes you appreciate what it actually means to have so much "stuff". It's a good thing your knitting mojo is back so you can knit up all that yarn!

  2. I, too, like your thoughts about not keeping stuff or collecting too much. Now...if only Fletch felt the same way - LOL. Pretty snow scene...but I am so ready for SPRING. The clocks change this weekend and the first day of Spring is not far away! Bird songs are the best right now.

  3. I feel the same way about my yarn stash. It really is too large. I need to knit it up or find someone who will loves the skeins that I no longer do.

I hope you find the old baby pattern. The old ones are some of the BEST ones.

  4. As I work on getting rid of 'stuff' I find myself feeling less attached to material things. Hubby has a harder time with it. Your idea about always having a blanket on the go is a wonderful idea for using up stash yarn. You make gorgeous blanket too. Stay cozy and warm during your snowfall. So pretty to look at when it is fresh.

  8. I'm right there with you with your mindset about not collecting more stuff. (I do have an exception for free stuff, but I'm doing my best to not pay to collect things that are just going to sit there.) I'm actively working up to use what I have, and it's a beautiful journey. :) We got an inch or so of snow overnight, just enough to cover everything, but a good portion of it melted already, and while tomorrow is supposed to be cold and windy, Sunday will get into the 50's, so adios, snow!

  10. That is such a cute picture of your puppy. I have a goal to "read and weed" books on my "to read shelf" as well. I hope you stay warm and cozy in the expected storm. Have a good weekend.

  11. Mother nature is a fickle woman! I'm just west of you in Missouri so I get mostly what you all get a day or so ahead.
Glad to see your knitting mojo is back! LOL! I can't wait to be able to sit in my grandmother's rocking chair and knit (when my move is done).
I have done the same with all my books. I only have kept my bible study books/materials. I read The Girl From The Train. It was pretty intriguing.
Alright, lots to do today so I better get started! Have a blessed weekend! Love your home BTW!

  12. I love that photo of your new house, it looks wonderful (the house and the snow). I hope you locate the pattern soon. I love your new way of looking at things, it is so true that we end up keeping things that we might need one day, even when that day never comes.

  13. Sometimes those older baby sweater patterns are the sweetest so I hope you find it soon. It's such fun to knit for little ones. I'm happy to hear your knitting mojo has returned. We certainly have too much stuff around here. I try hard to consider whether I really need new items before I buy them. Last week I gave away some yarn to an LYS collecting for a home for young women in drug treatment. It felt good to know someone else will enjoy learning to knit with it.

  14. I moved last August, and got rid of a lot of my clutter. I kept most of my yarn, however. I am trying to knit off of my stash as much as I can. We also had snow in Maryland. I am so ready for spring.
