Happenings

Good morning! How are you doing?

I have been busy these past few weeks learning how to insert and remove scleral lenses for the treatment of my severe dry eye caused by Sjogren's syndrome. These contacts are considered medically necessary for the health of my eye. I just started to learn how to use them when the electricity went out over a week ago. I guess I am learning and getting better but it takes a few tries to insert them as well as a steady hand. I see the eye doctor weekly and she keeps tweaking the fit and the vision correction. I still have to use reading glasses while wearing them. I see the eye doctor weekly as she changes the fit and the vision correction. I'm on my second pair right now with a third pair coming this week hopefully.

This past six months have been challenging for me with the dry eye and the dry mouth symptoms. I am grateful that there are medicines and treatments for the symptoms but I really wish there was a cure. The inflammatory arthritis has been minimal thank goodness. I am also grateful for all the doctors who treat me.

We tried a new ramen noodle shop which was nice but we still like our favorite one. It was fun to try something new. I always get either the chicken one or the vegetarian one. My husband likes the spicy ones.

Spring is springing! It's lovely to look at but my allergies are still acting up so I am outside limitedly. One day the tree pollen will end. Below is a photo of me in my contacts with reading glasses on. I lasted 10 minutes and then had to go back inside because I started sneezing. (I cannot take allergy meds due to the dry mouth).

I am enjoying the Kate Morton book, I guess the plot twist early on. I wonder if that is what the author's intention was when she wrote it.... anyways, it's an enjoyable read. On my Kindle I'm reading Red Bones by Ann Cleeves, I do love a murder mystery.

I'll be back with knitting news and the very slow progress on my Christening Blanket.

  1. Cute picture of you! I'm glad there are things that can be done to treat your dry eyes. Thank goodness for modern medicine and doctors! Your peony bud looks like mine - covered in ants!!! Pollen is still bad in the Eastern part of PA as well.

  2. I spent much of yesterday outside and my eyes felt terrible last night. I'm sure they weren't as bad as you experience, but I'll be glad when the pollen levels decrease.

  3. I am so glad that you are finding some success with the lenses for your eyes! We have rain in the forecast for this week and my hope is that those rains wash away the pollen that is everywhere right now!
