Knitting News

Good morning! How are you and how is your crafting coming along?

I continue to work feverishly on the christening blanket and am now mulling over how to finish it off without doing all of the remaining charts. I do not have much yarn left with the second skein. I do have a third optional color (similar to the first one) but I'm not sure if I want that and most of all I don't know if 500 yards will give me an additional inch of pattern based on how many inches I obtained with the second skein.

If I could get the blanket to be 36 inches wide and long (it's a square!) I feel that would be enough of a blanket. So my wonderings are: how many add inches in blocking will I get? Definitely one inch per quadrant but would I get two inches? Three inches might be right out! Also, how do I finish it off? I am going to flip through some of my other knitting books for some ideas.

Overall, I have loved knitting this and I'm excited to get it off the needles and give it a blocking. Most of all I would love to knit something else.

  1. Lots of knitting conundrums here. I think that pattern is lovely and I really like that knitted border. I don't know what I would do... hmmm.

  2. This is why I almost always end up buying extra yarn for projects. I don't like these sort of knitting conundrums, but I think you enjoy yarn chicken and figuring things out. I'm sure you will!

  3. Wow, it's beautiful and I love your thought process. I wonder if you are able to soak a few inches on the bottom of the blanket, and pin it out, let it dry and see how much it grows? I know you have way too many stitches to put it on string and do that. Whatever you decide will be the right thing!

  4. I get that way near the end of a project too. Which ever way you go, it will be a beautiful blanket.

  5. I think 36 inches square is perfect for a baby blanket....especially a Christening blanket. It is beautiful.

  7. The blanket is going to be an heirloom. I suppose if you had wanted to take the time you could put it all on waste yarn and block it to check on the size. Then again that sounds like a lot of work. Sometimes I wish for a magic mirror so I could see whether or not I have enough yarn to do more repeats. The love in the blanket is the main thing though.

  8. So many questions!! 36" square sounds perfect and I do love the second color you have added. This is already an heirloom!

  9. oh Karen, the piece is going to be amazing ... when I imagine the prayers you wrapped into each stitch ... so of course however you decide to end it will be perfect. and maybe you should enlist help for the blocking - I've found that four hands can get lace to open up more than two....

  10. It's beautiful and I think 36" seems reasonable.
