Knitting News

Good morning! How are all of you?  I finished that blanket ! Not only did I finish it on Friday night, I mailed it on Saturday morning. I've knit this pattern many times and have it memorized. That's what makes it a comforting knit. Even better news, I started a pair of simple socks for my husband and there is no knitting deadline. It's nice to pick up and put down a mindless knit. I am also enjoying the absence of a self imposed deadline. What are you working on this week?

Hopefulness

Image
Good morning! This week has been busy with classes and routine doctor appointments. The arthritis doctor has a few tricks up her sleeve for some of my dry mouth issues (from my autoimmune disease - Sjorgren's Syndrome) that make me feel hopeful. What was the most important thing during that doctor visit is that I felt seen and heard. I am thankful for her and her team. Speaking of hopefulness, look at my daffodils sprouting up! Some of the daffodils are just starting and some already have a head start. I love winter, but I'm looking forward to spring. The crocuses seem to be taking their time this year, as well as the snowdrops (unless those pesky deer have eaten them, grr). Even though I am still knitting my baby blanket, I have gathered four skeins of potential socks to be and am dreaming of a wonderful sock frenzy cast on.

Knitting News

Good morning! I have been working on this blanket (for a friend's first grand) exclusively since last week and am so close to being done. Sadly, it is not done for today but that's okay, I'm confident I will be casting off by the weekend or on Saturday at the latest. Once this blanket is done, I am free and clear of knitting for other people. However, my husband has worn through two more (!) pairs of hand knit socks. If the sock yarn is regia or trekking xl, they last 2+ years. Malabrigo sock yarn lasted 13 months. So you know I will be knitting socks for him. Sock knitting will be a lovely switch after the blanket knitting mania.  What are you working on this week?

Weekends

Good morning! How was your weekend? My weekend was the weekend of broken things. On Friday, I went to print and the printer would not print. After the two of us trying our best to troubleshoot, we decided that the printer was broken, it would not hold onto the wifi (and yes the wifi was working). To be honest, I've hated that printer since we've bought it a few years ago because it was difficult and not user friendly.  So, we went out and bought a new one and guess what? It works! Yesterday my brand new toaster (bought in December) quit working. I've submitted a warranty claim on their website, let's see what happens. I toasted my sourdough bread the old school way, in the oven. Besides the broken things, I had a great weekend. On Saturday morning I read some and knitted some. Yesterday, we attended our grand-nephew to be's baby shower and it was fun to see family. I helped with some of the dishes. My sister helps me out so much whenever I need help. Oh! It snowed...

Around Here

Image
Around here, I've been going to my non-credit classes and keeping up with various appointments. Yesterday, we went to the Carnegie Museum of Art and walked around the galleries. We love going there every month or so. After a lunch out, we headed home so I could take Frodo out for his daily walk. We continue to have daily sunshine and now I'm focused on the singing birds on my daily walks. Sometimes I remember to pull out my merlin app to identify the birds but frequently I'm not fast enough to catch the recording. Tonight we might have some snow, we will see about that. Around here, I'm knee deep in baby blanket knitting mode, trying to make steady progress so I can finish the project. I've been reading a graphic novel, Grass by  Keum Suk Gendry-Kim. My non-fiction read is Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson. Both are really good, I'm sure the non-fiction book will take months to read. Holly has been quite social and says 'hi'.

Another Baby Cardigan

Image
Good morning! How are you all?  I finished the baby cardigan for my great grand nephew before the weekend even started (yay!). I love the the finished project, love the neutral color, but didn't care for the yarn. I did knit at a tight gauge which made the hand pain worse, completely my fault. I have found over the years that I prefer to knit with wool or washable wool for optimal knitting joy.  What are you working on this week?

Weekends

Good morning! How was your weekend? On Saturday, my sister and I drove north to visit my dad and step mom for the afternoon. We had a lovely lunch and spent time catching up. The drive up and back was a little stressful. Crazy drivers and pouring rain, but we made it safely there and back.  On Sunday, we went to the conservatory with my sister and brother in law to see the orchid show. All the flowers and displays were beautiful. I was disappointed we were unable to go outside in the children's garden (one of my favorites) but maybe they are getting it ready for the spring, which as you know is right around the corner. I've been busy knitting away over the weekend and reading my library book on my kindle ( The Stone Circle by Elly Griffiths)before it was due. This weekend was over all lovely!
