Anticipation of Spring

I do love winter, honest!  But somehow over the weekend, we were gifted with fifty degrees and when I walked with only a fleece jacket it felt good.  Yesterday I had all my hair cut off, well how about seven inches?  I usually do drastic hairdos at the end of February.  I chuckled to myself because I went in for a wee trim.  Anyways, shampooing has become a breeze and I'm thrilled with my impulse decision.

I've noticed also how my knitting shades change towards a more spring-like theme.  My socks are just so cheerful and bright.  Same with the purple scarf-reminds me of my lilac bush.  So for now, I will snuggle into the end of winter.  The winds are blowing, I am cold while standing outside but the reality is we are slowly waving goodbye to a favorite season of mine.  All too soon, trees will be budding, flowers will bloom and all the woolen knits will be tucked away for deep fall.  Savoring each season as it enters and exits is a delight.  Being in the moment is a gift.

  1. Lovely cheerful sock yarn you have there!
I feel a bit cheated as we haven't had a proper winter here - not even any snow, excepting the odd sprinkling. It's been a tough season, though. I'm ready for something new.

  2. our socks are not exactly twins after all....could have sworn they were. where yours are orange mine are blue (yeah, blue, I know---they aren't for me, though!) Lovely lilac scarf, too! we're having extremes of your weather now, too...one day 70, the next 25....i'm trying to enjoy the end of my favorite season, too, but it's awfully hard with those 'teasers' thrown in!!! Happy week!

  3. Love the color of your socks and scarf! The socks look so bright and cheery and yes, the scarf reminds me of lilacs. We were given some lilac roots this weekend and I am dreaming of having our own lilac bush. :-)

  6. Yes, I see tiny leaf buds and late spring flowers hiding in those knits. Unlike you, I am not a winter gal, so any signs of spring -- even in yarn colors -- makes me giddy with anticipation. Mmmmm, the smell of lilacs...

  7. Here in TX it already feels like spring - windows open, complete with the fresh feeling that makes me want to organize closests. It's nice. But it's very strange. (And I know it will be followed all too quickly by beastly heat which I am VERY much not looking forward to.) I agree, the moment is a gift and I'm doing my best to enjoy the most out of it.

  8. Oh that sock yarn does remind me of spring...now spring needs to find me :) We are back into a deep freeze this week, not as bad as January, but still cold. They say we won't see anything above 0 until March 11...fingers crossed I will be south by then visiting my parents :) Enjoy the last little bit of winter Karen.

  9. I'm the same! I love winter, really I do. But when spring beckons I simply cannot turn my back on her! The trouble here is that we haven't had a real winter yet. The wild violets are beginning to raise their sleepy heads but we've had neither frost nor snow.

I'd love to know what you are knitting there in the second picture. It looks a little like a wrap I'm working my way through at the moment.

  10. The socks definately have a springy feeling to them. I love winter, but still always long for spring when it is near by. The worst is that tug of war, when it is neither winter nor spring. Have a nice week!

  11. I had very long hair for a very long time, and then a few years ago I took the plunge and went short, and I love it. I'm glad that you like your new cut. I have a bit of spring fever myself. Next week I'll be able to appropriately call it "March Madness". : ) I love that sock yarn you're using--great colors!

I need you to go to the salon with me..7 inches, wow, I bet it looks beautiful! I went a few weeks ago for a cut and chickened out, I got 1/2inch cut off..

  18. I love your spring colored projects! I am working on my sweater with every chance I get! This will an added pleasure for me when Fall 2014 arrives!!

I too, enjoyed not having to wear the big winter coats this past weekend. But, winter is not done with us yet! On March 1st my prayers will change from asking for snow, to asking for the sun and warmer days!

I won't recognize you at our next lunch meeting with your hair cut off! LOL. I am sure it looks wonderful!

    Have a great day!
