Rainy days, Packing and Saying Goodbye

I finished this cowl!  But I haven't had time to do it's dedicated photo shoot, maybe early next week.  I've been knitting frantically every moment I've had free.   Yesterday the rain arrived and with the thunderstorms came my frizzy, swirly, wonky hair.  Oh I don't know why I battle it so.  We all want what we cannot have.  So with each hour passing I tried to avoid looking in the mirror.

My husband and I drove to the newlyweds apartment to load up the "pod".  I believe my husband loved eking out every square inch of that space.  We took lots of photos, of a pod loaded up.  There is beauty in precision.

When we started loading up, half of us was doubtful (my husband and me) one of us was positive (my son-in-law) and my daughter had no opinion one way or the other.  I loved the moment when we all thought, 'that's it, nothing more will fit, what should be sacrificed and left behind' to 'oh!  let's see if those chairs do fit and what about that nightstand'.

I brought home with me: food, shelving units, two chairs and some of their possessions that we will store here for the two years they are in California.  So now my house is a bit of a mess.

We had lunch and dinner together to break up the long work day. Goodbyes were said- I'm excited for their new adventure but I'll miss them.  I keep thinking back to when my husband and I moved to Texas so many years ago and saying goodbye to my own family. Full circle of life (cue--lion king song).

She will be back at the end of September for my nephew's wedding and I'm sure we will see them sometime over the winter break. As you know, I'm planning our own trip to visit their new home in the spring, hopefully with our son as well.

Today I'll be on another adventure which I'll share for my weekend post.  There will be YARN therapy involved :)

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. I'm glad to see you won at packing Tetris! Safe travels to your daughter and her husband. Yarn therapy is the BEST therapy when your kids are far away and you're missing them. Happy weekend!

  2. I said an extra prayer for you yesterday and you came into my mind several times through out the day, I'm so glad everything went well and the new couple are off to begin their adventures. I think we need to plan a girls trip somewhere, of course it will include woolie love, now wouldn't that be fun?
Have a beautiful weekend my dear friend.

  3. I remember that day when our daughter and her new husband packed up the car and drove off. Many tears. They also could not fit it all in so we stored things here. That was over 6 years ago and we still have some things here even though they live just a few miles away (in a small place). I love when they leave things her - it means they have to return!

  7. Aww. Wow.

I lived afar from my mother as children do until a a couple of years ago when she retired and moved near me. Now I can't image living far from her ever again. Just wont happen.

  8. Never easy to let them go but the visits will be all the sweeter. There are lots of other ways of keeping in touch I see my grandbabies everyday on the computer. Keep busy...

  11. I'm so impressed with that packing job. I honestly heard the Lion King when you said circle of life. I appreciate the circle of life, but dang if it doesn't make me feel a little tired and a little beat up sometimes. (Yes I am avoiding the "O" word). Pretty knits. Have a good weekend!

  14. Good byes are so difficult with my daughter. It is getting worse and worse. She's been in Virgnia 3 years. She is so wonderful about texts and calls, but it always tugs hard at my heart when she goes back to the coast.
Your finished knitting is just lovely

  25. What goes around, comes around, doesn't it? Like you, I remember leaving home for CA after our wedding, and then years later DD#1 left to study in Chicago. Now she is married and lives there....3 GK later. You will find CA a very fun place to visit, I predict.

  26. I'm so behind on reading your blog, I'm so very sorry! I had to laugh when I saw the pod loaded up, we call it "playing Tetris" every time we have to pack for a vacation with all the kid-travel stuff. We are looking forward to this holiday season when we'll be traveling without the stroller and the highchair for the first time.

I'm sorry your daughter is moving so far away, but what an adventure! And I always say, the best time to travel is when you have a place to stay. :-)
