Emotions and Healing

This week has been quite the week with emotions.  Usually I'm not emotional, I can keep the tears at bay even during a heart wrenching movie.  Now when I'm worried about my health, well then the waterworks begin!  Monday had me worried and crying about my eyes, so I went to an urgent eye care clinic at the big big hospital and saw an ophthalmologist.

You see, I started with a simple eye infection and those antibiotic drops caused corneal abrasions that were not healing with subsequent drops prescribed.  So after the third visit and my eyes looking worse I knew I needed to switch doctors.

So now the good news, after two days of yet again new antibiotic eye drops, I went for a return visit for a recheck with the reddest eyes (so ugly!).  However, my corneas are nearly healed and I've now started a steroid drop that has reduced the inflammation significantly.  This is by far the best my eyes have felt in a long long time.  I see her (the doctor) next week.  I feel I'll be there frequently for lots of rechecks and monitoring of my eye pressures.

I'm so grateful for this doctor!  In turn, my anxiety (and ridiculous tears) have lowered and I'm once again thinking about knitting and projects and other little joys in my life.  I am furiously working on the mitts and I finished a hat for yet another gift.

Thank you all for the well wishes here and on instagram.  I am feeling so much better.  I hope you have a great weekend!!

  12. Oh, Karen! I am so sorry! That is so frustrating, and I completely understand. I am so glad you have a better doctor now! Sending lots of love!

  33. That is such good news that your eyes are finally beginning to heal - what an ordeal for you. Tears are sometimes necessary, health scares are so stressful it can be quite cathartic to just have a good cry - even if it serves absolutely no purpose other than to let off steam.

  42. Fantastic to hear that your eyes are mending. I hear ya about all the worrying, anxiety and mental aerobics we do about health issues. Because I am such a visual person, any issues with my eyes would probably lead me to some sort of breakdown. Thank goodness for great doctors!!! xoxo

  43. Karen, I am so glad that you followed your instincts and switched doctors! You should never apologize for the tears, they help us to heal. I'm sending you hugs and wishes that your eye continues to improve day by day! xx

  44. I'm so glad you got to see a good specialist. They are worth their weight in gold (at least). Finding the right doctor is such a challenge when things aren't going well with your initial doc and when you are emotionally stressed by still being less than you want to be. I hope that you continue to heal and that in the future you will be told that your eyes are well enough for you to only have to come in once or twice a year always knowing that your doctor will be available if something goes wonky. Don't apologize for your tears. They may have helped you decide that you needed to find a new doctor. Also they were a release. Hang in.

  46. So sorry you've had all this mess, but glad you're on the mend. One time I had corneal abrasions (caused my the callouses on the backs of my eyelids from 24 hour contact wear - yikes!) and got to the pharmacist and got the drops the prescribed. $102 AFTER insurance! Ack! So I learned my lesson to take better care of my eyes! Happy that you are able to focus (pun intended) on nitty gifts!
