Hello! Have you recovered from the holidays?  Getting there?  Oh my, I sure am.  We had the slowest weekend ever.  As promised on Friday, I put away the Christmas tree and all of my decorations.  That photo above is where the tree twinkled and glowed.

I love the wide opened spaces I'm seeing now in my home.  It's good.  It's refreshing.  Our son is still here and he has the "cold" that his sister brought.  This weekend had him on the couch while my husband and I prayed to not catch it and steered clear of his sneezing and coughing.  He's feeling much better.  He leaves on Wednesday to returned to Boston to start up another semester

This weekend I...

-took a daily walk and was chilled by the winter weather
- finished some hats
- had Chinese takeout
- spent time with my camera, getting reacquainted
- read books
- watched movies (Mockingjay 1)
- contemplated about reading the Hunger Games books since I haven't yet
- flipped through some cookbooks
- watched the deer in the woods watching me

how was your weekend?

  1. Hi Karen - sounds like a nice first weekend of the new year. Our Christmas stuff is all put away too - we are ready to get "back at it" tomorrow! I have read the first two of the Hunger Games Trilogy. That was plenty for me. My husband read all three in like a week and LOVED them! You will have to let me know what you think. Have a great week.

  2. Awwww. My weekend = GOOD! Watched the 100th episode of Pitbulls and Parolees last night knitting!! Found a cause to knit for in 2016. Made lowfat homemade Broccoli mac n cheese for tonight. Watched an episode of Life IN Pieces for fun.

  3. Active! :-) We got back into walking in a "serious" way since we have our next 1/2 marathon coming up in April. Saturday morning it was only 28 when we went for a little over 8 1/2 miles. This morning Greg, Nadia and I went for a little over 2 miles and in the afternoon Hannah and I went for almost 4. Even though it was chilly and brisk out, it felt so good to be outside! Got the chicken coop cleaned out, worked on my sock... A good weekend!

  6. Sounds like you made it a great weekend with a variety of things. I'm taking my son to the airport early tomorrow so he can head back to CO to start his spring semester, then coming home and taking down the tree, for my own refreshing start to the new year. Hopefully I'll have time for a walk in this lovely, real winter weather!

  7. I'm sorry your son is sick and I do hope you don't catch it, extra vitamin C and lots of water!
I had my 'big' camera out today, it was fun playing with it again.
It's been cold here today and I have a fire in the woodstove :)

  8. I too love the spaciousness of my home once the decorations are put away. Cook books have been open here too, as I look for inspiration. Have a great week Karen, and I hope that cold doesn't catch you.

  9. We put away all the decorations except the nativity. I like to leave that up longer. It was a lovely first weekend of the new year. http://liningupmystitches.blogspot.com/2016/01/easing-into-new-year.html
Stay well! Maybe a recipe for warm soup?

  10. I don't really have room for a tree so we always just hang up our decorations and lights around the house. We are taking ours down on Wednesday for Twelfth Night :). Your weekend sounds like the perfect thing after the busyness of all the festivities. Hope you don't catch that cold, have a lovely week.

  11. Sounds as though you had a lovely relaxing weekend! It is nice to just do little things around the home isn't it after Christmas. Hope that the cold doesn't get to anyone else. This is what I did this weekend. Have a good week! xx http://lovemademyhome.blogspot.co.uk/2016/01/what-i-did-at-weekend.html

  12. a lovely weekend. Mine was spent doing laundry after a few days away and fighting with the ball of wool that got very tangled while trying to wind it! Arrgghhh

  13. Sounds like a wonderful weekend to me! I won't have any like this until after January when I get all my tax stuff completed. I too am contemplating the Hunger Games after Harry Potter. Took me a long time to convince myself to read Harry Potter but I finally did and I'm enjoying it! Hope you don't catch that cold!!!

  16. Sounds like a relaxing weekend. The tree is still up, we don't take ours down until twelfth night, but I am really ready for it to come down I must admit.

  17. Karen, your weekend sounds ideal! We have taken our tree down but the rest of the stuff is still up. I had hoped to get to it today but it turned into a day of errand running instead. Our weekend was very busy as we had friends visiting until Saturday a.m. and then dinner at Mom's on Sunday. I am really ready for a few quiet days! What school does your son attend in Boston? My oldest went to B.U. and Harvard, we loved visiting her there! Have a lovely week!

  18. This corner looks cozy. Since your kids are older and away at school, do you feel you've cleared out a lot more stuff since you have more space available?

    1. no, I haven't cleared much out of anything - my daughter's room still has her stuff in it and that will be so until they finish his post doc in CA. Hopefully then she will move her stuff out. My son's room is still the same.

My house does stay cleaner without kids!!
