Where I've Been

I went to New York City!  We planned a quick get away a few days before we left on Tuesday.  Yes, I know many of you live near NYC and I would've loved to meet up with you but I knew I would have absolutely a jammed packed two days.  And I did.  I walked over 8.5 miles each day and my RA was in full swing.  Thank goodness for park benches, cafes and theater seats for me to slightly recover.

We went to the Guggenheim Museum.  I have to be honest, my husband is more into art than I am.  However I enjoyed myself.  I married a person who would read every single placard if there was infinite time available.

The obligatory selfie in Central park.

Trusting a total stranger with my iphone for a couple shot.  People are so very kind in the world.

I think this is SoHo....pretty sure....

McNally Jackson bookstore!!  (I, sadly did not get to The Strand bookstore, again..)

Purl SoHo!!  This was pure heaven, I could have stayed there as long as my husband wanted to stay and read placards in the museums....so so so much better when yarn is involved.

My husband staring at a placard in the Met Museum.  I was overly tired in the museum so I walked and looked for a bench and he walked and looked at beautiful art.

I ate the best salad in the world!  I watched dog walkers in Central Park and missed my Frodo.  I also saw tons of nannies in the park with their charges and thought, "I could be a nanny!!".  We stayed in the Upper West side where it's a tiny bit quieter but I was in:  midtown, the theater district, SoHo and Greenwich village.  There is still many many places I'd like to see.

We went to a play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime.  The production was beyond fantastic!  I read the book a couple of years ago and the play was creatively executed with computer choreographed lights in the walls and floor of the stage. We were blown away by the show!  Go see it if you can.

So now I'm home.  Oh how I missed it so, my bed, my kitchen, my oh so boring (but wonderful) life.  I am slowly recovering from a huge RA flare and so I'm not walking or exercising until my body calms down.  Hopefully in 48 hours I will be back to myself.

Oh my daughter is arriving tomorrow :)

I hope to get caught up on all of your posts in the next few days.

  4. sounds like a wonderful time! NYC is such a diverse place, I can see how one can need time to recover; the RA flare sounds difficult. so sorry, will light a candle for you. It is good that you rested instead of pushing yourself in the Met. I went into to NYC a week ago and it was tiring. It often is. But fun! Glad you got to go!

  6. What a fun trip! I love NYC and I remember last time we went (13 years ago) walking miles and miles trying to see everything we could in a couple of days and loving everything! My husband also loves to read every placard in museums - history museums are his favorite. Hope your RA flare gets better. I also suffer from arthritis, and my grand daughter has juvenile arthritis, so I do understand. Rest and take it easy and enjoy having your daughter around! Have a good weekend.

  8. What a great trip! Wish I could go to NYC for a short visit, but it's a bit far for that!

I could spend an infinite time in either a bookstore or a yarn store. I have a friend who likes Knitty City, also in NYC, even more than Purl Soho. I'd be happy to visit either one!

BTW: I love one of the books in your bookstore photo. I highly recommend "Eat The Document."

  16. Karen I hope by the time you read this your RA has calmed down and you are back to to feeling better. Still it is great you were able to enjoy as much of the city as you did. I think that's some excellent NYC spirit you tapped into (and your own of course). I missed the Guggeinheim and my last trip, but I did the Met with my boys and we had a good time, the small one was definitely charmed by the Audio tour. The MOMA has one specifically for kids now. Anyways, you got the best of all of it, good eats, good walks and city / people watching a PLAY! and of course Purl SoHo. The boys didn't even fake they were going to be interested in that, and went off to explore little Italy and gelato while I languished within those walls. :) Rest and Recovery and welcome home.

  26. We went to Purl Soho when I was in the city in October. I loved it but it was the same trip as Rhinebeck, so really kind of a let down. Maybe if it had been it's own trip?

  27. You and I and Dorothy Gale agree: there's no place like home. Still, it's nice to get away once in a while, and NYC is always exciting. it's wonderful that you got to go to Purl Soho and the MET and see a play and eat the best salad in the world! But, I am really sorry that you are dealing with an RA flare-up; that must have made all of the walking pretty hard. Glad you're getting some good rest now. ♥
