Belated Gift

morning sunbeams

Good morning!  The sun is shining today and it is a glorious day.  We had quite the mini heat wave since Wednesday and while I did walk the first day, poor Frodo thought it was too hot for him.  So yesterday we stayed inside.  I guess since he is approaching eight years old, he has his limits.  I'm not a huge fan of heat waves so any excuse to sit inside and knit is fine by me.

For a mini health update, I am excited to tell you that I resumed my morning yoga routine and so far I've had no back issues.  Thanks to the awesome physical therapist that gave me a take home back exercising program that I've faithfully completed for the past month.  I feel stronger and much better.  The yoga routine for now is gentle stretching and I'm extremely careful about being aware of my posture at all times.

I've missed doing yoga, for me it's a great stress releaser and it's one of the few areas of exercise that I feel empowered even with my RA limitations.

our son is home this weekend visiting :)

Yesterday I received a mother's day gift from my son, a new fabric covered moleskine notebook.  This one will be for miscellaneous writing prompts as soon as I fill up my current red one (end of this month!).  I'm thrilled about the new notebook and I love that he knows me.

Speaking of our son, completed his first year of the PhD program in Statistics at Penn State and just finished his Qualifying exams.  He will receive his results sometime next week.  He worked hard and I'm confident he passed.  Can you believe that it's almost a year already?  I can't.  Time has to start slowing down soon.

So you all wanted to see that purse I mentioned earlier this week in a blog post.  Well here you go - it is a Baggallini brand, I'm not sure of the style.  I bought it discounted at a Marshals store.  I love the bright yellow lining the best.  The various pockets keep my stuff organized and tidy.

I appreciate a purse that is lightweight to begin with before I jam it with all of my "stuff".  Carrying a heavy purse is burdensome when you are out and about all day long.

Well I'm off for some adventures with my husband and son today.  I hope you are doing great and have a fun weekend planned.  I appreciate your visiting and commenting on my posts.  This blogging world is wonderful in uniting us together.  Have a great weekend and I'll be posting in a few days :)

  1. A thoughtful gift from someone who knows you well is lovely, as is your new purse. I've often wished for one with a bright, light lining so I could find things in it, and now I know where to find one. Quals are stressful and a big deal, so congratulations to your son, and I hope you have wonderful adventures together!

    1. He maintained his "zen " through the quals, thank goodness! Hopefully he passed :)

  2. Isn't it nice when you can resume something that you not only enjoy doing, but that makes you feel good? I think that's one of the benefits of good PT.

That purse and notebook are both extremely appealing, and it's probably good that you do not live near me, as I might attempt theft ... ;-)

    Enjoy your family weekend!

  3. PT is so helpful for back issues and it's wonderful to hear you're able to go back to something you love. The notebook is beautiful and something you'll use and enjoy. Once again I'm going to copy your handbag choice as the tote I carry is just too much for daily use. Enjoy your day with your family!

    1. PT is a godsend. I am hoping this is it. I love light weight purses for all day outings. I have also cleaned out much of what I lug around.

  5. I agree, the yellow lining is fantastic! Have a great time with your son, Karen, I always love it when one of my girls is home! We are still in the midst of a heat wave but tomorrow it is supposed to finally cool down. Hooray! xx

  6. ooohhh, I didn't know Moleskine made fabric covered notebooks - I've only ever used the plain black ones! The new bag is wonderful - a bright inside is the best for not losing stuff and I know the lightweight is good for posture (and I've got to think RA issues, too?). Enjoy the visit - happy weekend!

    1. I didn't either! Yes the RA issues do play a minor part. Mostly it's my shoulder being lopsided from a purse...

  10. Welcome back to yoga! That has to feel fabulous. I like the Baggalini bags. I bought a small wallet size style to stick in my large tear-drop bag that I use when traveling. I can use it as a wallet or as a small purse with all the essentials while sight seeing. Enjoy your son's visit.

    1. I would love to carry only a wallet but I can't. I want so much with me :) I do have wallet carrying envy though when I see a person with a tiny little thing.

  11. I'm sure you are having a wonderful time with your son. What a thoughtful gift he gave you. Not all men can do that! My daughter also just finished the first year of her Ph.D. program in criminology (but she does a lot of stats!) and took her comps Thursday.
So glad you can do yoga. I do gentle yoga, too, but not enough of it!

  12. Yes, it is so wonderful that he "knows" you. My own son showed up this week with a beautiful planting of a yucca and ivy (interesting combination), but the thing I loved most is that he said the yucca was a plant for survival (he know I love a meaning and purpose for every thing). ;) Glad your yoga is going well and your back feeling better! Kudos to your son and his hard work!! I know you are so proud of him. ENJOY your weekend! blessings ~ tanna

  13. I know how you feel about getting back to yoga, I try to do a little everyday, and really notice if I don't do it for a while. The moleskine is lovely - I've not seen the fabric covered ones before but I will look out for them. Enjoy your son being home and take care Karen. x

    1. I haven't been able to do yoga since October! However not doing it has helped my back get better and the PT was so that I strengthen my back before stretching it!
