Knitting News

Good morning!  As you can tell by my photos, this morning is cloudy and bleak.  I guess it's going to rain?  Maybe.  Every day cannot be sunny, but it's nice when it is :)

Anyways, my top down cardigan is swimming along after a tiny hiccup of dropping an end stitch and ripping out four rows to fix the dropped stitch.  The yarn is squishy and the stitches 'stay' in place making the ripping out easy.  I am two thirds of the way through with the raglan shaping.  Then we get to the fun stuff, separating sleeves and body knitting.

My white out shawl is making steady progress.  I am still contemplating whether I like the fabric with the size four needles.  I keep returning to the idea of dropping a size.  However, when I pull the fabric out for a fake pre-look blocking, I love how it looks.  So I keep on knitting.  Dropping a needle size would make the finished shawl smaller and I definitely don't want that.

Our local library had a used book sale, usually the sale is quiet and easy to navigate.  This time, the book buyers were out and about and slinking around the tables was tight.  I picked up some books for a dollar each.  Not a bad deal at all.

Thank you all who visit and who sometimes comment.  I appreciate your readership and your ideas you share!

  4. I read the Rosie effect. It was cute. I would have gone down a needle size but NOT if i'd run out of yarn. If you like it and can envision it keep going

  5. Two lovely wips. That shawl makes me happy just looking at it! I'm making a top down cardigan in a very similar shade of blue ... it's a very versatile color, I think. Happy weekend :D

  6. Fun to see your projects, Karen! Looks like you have some interesting reading going on, too. I just finished Watermelon Snow, written by a friend of ours, and am now reading Day iafter Night for book club.

  7. Your knits are so pretty. I really like the looks of the shawl fabric. Score at the Book Sale. I enjoy browsing book sales and used books to see what turns up. I just stopped in at one of my favorite used book stores this afternoon. I left without buying anything so I may have to go back.

  9. I always forget about those library book sales. My daughters would probably find books. I told them we'll scour used bookstores this summer. The blue of your cardigan is soothing and almost vintage-like. When a pattern calls for a bigger gauge with a lighter yarn I always feel I want to rebel because it's weird for me to get such loose fabric. Let your instincts guide you. Ain't nothin' wrong with personal preference.

  10. I am so lovin' the colors and the look of your Whiteout! :) It is going to be gorgeous! If I am going to have to rip back, I like to have a good easy yarn! Ha!! Score on the books!! I have a good friend who passes me stacks every time I get to see her... then, they get passed on again. Instead of the "Traveling Pants" we have the traveling books. ;) Have a wonderful weekend. blessings ~ tanna

  14. The Rosie Effect is brilliant - there are SO many amazing Australian writers out there! I laughed from a couple of pages in. Tim Winton would be my most favourite Aussie author - I've a huge amount of books bought, but not read.

  18. I love your new shawl. I have decided to try making the Spindrift Shawl that you recently finished. I met Helen at Squam last week and she is so lovely and offered suggestions to get me back on track to loving knitting. I also signed up for her little mini-workshop that she offers along with the shawl pattern. I hope to get it cast on this afternoon. Wish me luck! xx
