Current Knitting

I feel like a broken record with my current knits, same old same old.  While I sing the praises of lightweight knits as my favorites, the drawback is the length of time of those projects.  I am happy in my knitting and that is what makes life beautiful.

I finished the novel The Rosie Effect and while mildly entertaining, I didn't really care much for it.  To cleanse my reading palette, I started The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.  A short novel with a heavy theme but seen through the eyes of an innocent child.  I have a stack (shall I admit STACKS) of books that are on my to be read list by my bed.  I'm looking forward to sifting through them and selecting the next book.

I know I'm crazy but I've started thinking about Christmas knitting.  The thinking stage is fantastic because I'm making lists and checking out patterns to see what I might be interested in.  My holiday knitting isn't stressful because the recipients do not know what or if they are receiving anything hand knit.  So if I get the knitting done, great!  If not, oh well.   Most likely, I will get the knitting done.

Do you have any great ideas for the holidays this year?  Did you do something fun last year?  Do tell!

  1. I like seeing the progress on you knits. I am not even considering homemade Christmas this year as I will be working one full-time and one part-time job starting in September. I am trying to finish a couple of projects that I started last year over the Summer break.

  2. I love seeing your knits, however long they take! I'm only working on one Hitchhiker and it's taking me forever. That's also giving me plenty of time to think about my next project, which was going to be another one for me. But now you've also got me considering some hats for Christmas. Thanks for prompting me to think about holiday knitting!

  3. I have the Grandpa Cardigan on my needles, but I haven't been able to make much progress on it this summer. I hope to pick it up again soon. I love seeing the progress of your projects. Christmas! I was just thinking about it the other day--time goes so fast. Already it's August! What else is in your book stack?

  4. I didn t like the Rosie Effect either. I quit on it. Allison loved it . Your post reminded me that this time last year I was making big wool stockings and felting them for Christmas .I ended up sending two to my niece. They came out a little wonky, but fun. This summer I'm all about shawls. I love seeing your progress in a any way!

  5. I also enjoy seeing your knitting and if you are enjoying it, then who cares how long it takes? I have not started thinking about Christmas. I can't!! There are a few people for whom I'd like to knit socks, but I'm not going to make myself crazy. If they get done, fine. if they don't, they can always be Valentine's Day gifts or Ground Hogs Day gifts or something!

  6. I think holiday knitting when no one knows/expects anything is the best. You can actually enjoy yourself because there's no outside pressure!

  7. My knitting has ground to a complete hault! Hubby and I are busier than we thought we would be with only one child still home (almost gone). It will be some time before I get back to that scarf and hat I was making for my step grandson! :) Love all your knits! So delicate looking.

  8. I usually do hats for my great nieces and nephews, but this year I think they are getting something sewn, so much quicker!!! And zippered bags for all the ladies of the family! Which is only 11 on my side and 9 on Hubster's side. I better get sewing!

  9. I read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas a few years ago and liked it. My piles are spread out around the house and with all the book bingo lists, my lists just keep growing and growing

  12. Nice photo of all your knits, book, and candles!I have been thinking of Christmas knitting, I am knitting the first stocking of two and I started knitting socks for my mom for Christmas too. I am going to probably knit something for all my family members (4 people) and my boyfriend this year.

  13. I think I'm mostly skipping holiday knitting this year. I have a small stitched project I want to make for my sister, but that's about it for holiday crafting.

I'm just in the mood to work my way through my stash without thinking much about who/what/when/where. One by one ticking through the yarns. LOL

  14. I have been considering Christmas crocheting too!

  15. I start Christmas knitting in January. I knit my family socks so that is 6 pair. My son-in-law has size 13 feet so I do his first; and keep going largest to smallest. Then I knit a few small items as surprises. I even have time to knit a few things for me. I love watching your knitting projects come to life!

  16. Such a beautiful photo... gorgeous knits, candles, a book and tools of the trade. :) Makes me smile just to see. UNUSUALLY for me, I've been thinking about Christmas knitting! Ha! So far, I've only been considering it. ;) I've been on a little reading binge, Me Before You and What Alice Forgot. Now: I am Pilgrim. Nothing too exciting, but both of the first two prompted much thought after reading. blessings ~ tanna

  18. Karen. I am not ready to discuss the holidays. My goodness! (Wink.) Simply trying to survive to Labor Day over here...

My knitting is all a broken record too. That's just how it goes. Row by row.

  19. I also have a Melanie Berg pattern on the needles! And I'm finding it a sloooow knit ! lol I might buy a gorgeous Christmas-y colored skein a knit myself a pair of socks. I no longer do any Christmas gift knitting. Instead I bake lots of traditional English fare for my elderly parents which is time consuming in itself.

  20. Oh my, Christmas... I think I might just hold off on Christmas knitting until my kids are older. I always WISH and think I will knit for next Christmas but I'm just not a fast enough knitter to make it a happy experience. Someday! But it makes me a little sad because handmade gifts are my favorite. Your knitting is beautiful! I can't wait to follow your Christmas knitting adventures! You always choose such pretty patterns.
