Take Notice and List Gratitudes

Yesterday Frodo and I did a walk about in the yard.  These days go by so quickly that I forget to take photos.  Since Autumn is one of my favorite seasons (WINTER!) I wanted to make sure I take notice.  The cooler temperatures arrived two days ago.  There was collective sigh of relief heard by all who were tired of the heat and humidity.  I pulled out my fleece coat and if it drops a few more degrees, perhaps the woolens will be worn.  A knitter can hope.

My daughter and son in law left on Monday morning.  After I finished babysitting, I cleaned the house and enjoyed the empty coffee table.  They are happy in their townhouse and we hope to see them soon.

I've been struggling with back pain, so I saw my RA doctor yesterday.  I started physical therapy today and had some x-rays done to see if I did something really crazy.  No news yet.  I would do anything to sleep the whole night through and to not be thinking of my back.

My knitting is on the back burner for now.

After I heal up, I'm thinking of joining a gym or doing something more than what I do now so I can avoid all this bother.

So how about a gratitude list!  Whenever I write these, they make me feel good and see my blessings.

-Tylenol! - internet and electricity (which went out again on Monday) - mini kitkat bars - not cooking all week - eggs and toast for dinner - applesauce pouches - leaves turning colors - my kids - my husband - my RA doctor who I've seen since 1997 - the kindness of others - cheering up the grumpy people I meet - silly laughter - inside jokes with my husband - the little 18 month girl I babysit - little toddler tantrums - the hopefulness of each morning

  2. I so hope you get some relief from back pain with PT. Anything that puts knitting on the back burner is not a good thing. I'm glad you can focus on gratitudes and have so many! That is a crazy, yet beautiful fungus.

  7. I am so sorry to hear about your back. Back pain is the worst. Thinking about it makes me appreciate foot pain, which is much easier to deal with, I think. I hope the changing seasons will help you heal.

  8. I'm so sorry to hear that your back is acting up. Have you tried Pilates? I have osteoarthritis in my shoulder, neck, hips and lower back. I started classes about 6 weeks ago and between that and yoga my pain level has decreased a lot.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

  11. I've been reading your blog for a while now. Goodness, it does take fortitude to have back pain and RA. Good luck with PT (don't ya just love these acronyms?) - they are my favorite kind of people as I also have RA with osteoarthritis, and pick their brains constantly. Slow going and patience, rest and medicine - you know how it goes. I've been doing arthritis swim class in a heated thera-pool, it has been the best thing, I do recommend it.
I send vibes of quick healing to you.

  12. Autumn is full of color in your neighborhood. Hope the PT helps with your back. I found an arthritis swim class at our local community pool. It has helped with my back problems and its fun to do, too. Water offers no impact exercise, which has been extremely helpful in stopping my pain.

  13. I hope that your back feels better soon. I love the change of weather lately to fall. I really enjoy wearing sweaters and jackets and being more cozy. I feel more motivation to knit too unlike those really hot or humid days when you don't feel like knitting. Thanks for sharing your gratitude list, we have a lot to be thankful for!

  15. Hoping your back pain goes soon, it really is horrible, I found for mine, PT can help and also dry needling (western version of acupuncture) really beneficial, helped to reduce pain and relax of muscles, some people it works well for others not, loving your gratitude list.
