A Work in Progress

It's the end of the week, again.  The days are flying by for me and I have a list crafted daily for all the tasks I'd like to achieve.  Do I get everything done?  Nope.  But I do what I can and what doesn't get done goes on the next day's list.  I'm sure all of you are doing the same thing.

During Advent, I can get lost in being busy and acting frantically.  This year I'm being mindful and practicing being present in whatever activity I'm engaged in.  I'm a work in progress.

Speaking of works in progress, I've got two!  Above is yet another hat to give as a gift.  Below is my son in law's sweater.  Just think, once I get to the armhole shaping that sweater is going to fly off the needles.  I'll be past the stockinette and into the juicy part of the pattern.

By the way, the mom loved the tiny tea leaves cardigan.  If I get a photo of the toddler girl modeling and I have permission to share the photo, you will see it!  To be honest, I can't wait to see her in it.

Today while babysitting, she was saying the word 'no' over and over again in a silly way, so very sweet.  I wish I could remember more of my own children's emerging language development (and I am a speech pathologist!).  I was an intense stressed out mom - could be why my memory fails me.  Being the babysitter is relaxing and fun, I wish I could go back in time and tell my young self to chill out and enjoy the busyness of being a parent.

Tomorrow is another gym day.  The gym sessions are good, but boy are they hard - mentally and physically.  However, I've been seeing some improvements.  My back is fantastic, my RA is behaving and I feel a bit stronger.  My confidence is what needs the most work.  I cannot wait for the day when I am not a 'newbie' in the gym.  Again, I'm a work in progress.

The nativity set above was a gift from a student many years ago from when I was a CCD teacher (Sunday school teacher).  I taught CCD for 13 years while my children were in the CCD program.  I enjoyed being involved with my kids and knowing their friends and serving the church in the process.  Setting up the nativity brings fond memories every year.

  1. That nativity set is absolutely beautiful, made even better by fond memories. And progress, not perfection, is always a good thing, along with presence and all your knitted presents!

  2. I agree with Bonny. Progress not perfection is my goal. Your home looks inviting and ready for Christmas. Keep on keeping on with the gym thing. Feeling better is wonderful progress. As I enjoy my grands, I find myself wishing I had enjoyed my own two a little more and worried less.

  4. Your nativity is so beautiful, Karen. Holds a beautiful memory for you, too.

I think it is wonderful to be a WIP. Means we aren't stagnate or settling or giving up. Keep on keeping on! ;)

You'll be finished with those two in no time. I love the gray of your SIL's sweater. Thank you for reminding me to try to be present in each moment... it does get hard to remember, especially this time of year.

I hope you do get a photo of your little charge in her beautiful red sweater! Have a wonderful day. blessings ~ tanna

  5. Your nativity set is beautiful! I find if I focus on the task at hand, rather than thinking ahead of all the things I think I should be doing, I experience more peace and joy in that moment. Thank you for the reminder that each of us is a work in progress! I want to make the Tiny Tea Leaves for my great niece, but have to give some thought as to what size to make.

  7. When we realize we are a work in progress we are moving forward. When I am strong I feel confident, joyful because my body works as I need it to, and I feel capable. You are a generous knitter and your recipients will love their gifts!

  8. What a sweet gift that nativity set is. I was right there with you, sister; I was a stressed out mom with both kids and can't remember much from those days.

  12. I know exactly what you mean about being an intense, stressed-out mother. Why does it take so long to figure things out? Your hat and sweater look beautiful.

  13. I love your tree!
And oh, being a work in progress... I thought that by now (at age 46) I'd be a real grown-up and a wise woman, but um...nope. But as long as there is progress, it's good, isn't it?

  14. I am trying to get 5 2x2 ribbed hats done for the great-nephews/nieces before Christmas. All that 2x2!!!! 1 done, 1 halfway, and only 3 to go, and it's only Dec 10th!! LOL. My nativity is a terra cotta Native American grouping. I just love it.

  15. It's wonderful, to be a work in progress. I am beginning to look at myself in a similar light. My days a speeding by and like you I have a todo list that I am trying my best to complete each day. But there is always tomorrow, right? ; ) We now have something else in common; I also taught CCD for many years while my girls were young. It seems so long ago now! Have a wonderful week, Karen!
