Knitting News

I'm happy to report that I'm blissfully knitting the first sleeve of my son in law's sweater.  I'm in heaven!  Wouldn't it be incredible if I finished a sleeve in one week?  I know it's doable but will I do it?  Stay tuned.

My mitts haven't seen much action but I did manage to work a few hours on the second mitt patterning.  So lovely to knit and yet I'm torn between knitting and finishing the sweater or knitting and finishing the mitts.

What a lovely knitting problem to have, right?

In reading, I continue to spend some time with Inspector Gamache in the fourth book of the series by Louise Penny.  Also I started Gilead by Marilynne Robinson.  What beautiful poetic writing!  I feel like highlighting paragraphs.  I should get a notebook out and take some notes...

What are you crafting these days?

  1. Just like the saying about books, we've all got too much knitting we want to do, but not enough time. You're right; it is a good problem to have. I never understand how people can say they are bored!

  2. Oh, that's lovely, working on two project you really like working on! That's how knitting should be, I guess. I just finished my third hat and I'll probably cast on for another one this evening. I'm also working on typing out the "patterns" for the other hats I made, but I got stuck at the boring parts (gauge etc.) .
I'm reading "An affair to dismember" by Elise Sax and I'm loving it. I found out that my Dutch subscription to e-books includes over 700 (!) cozy mysteries in English. I love cozy mysteries, but somehow no publisher seems interested in translating them and libraries or bookshops don't have them in English either, so I never read any of these before. I'm in reader's heaven right now ;-)

  4. You are clicking right along! Such beautiful knits! I'm still plugging along on my Flat Rib Popover and my MKAL mitts, reading The Shanghai Girls by Lisa See and really enjoying her writing. That's one or rather two things this weather is good for... knitting and reading! Some of my favorite things to do! Have a wonderful day, Karen. blessings ~ tanna

  5. I got a wild hair and made a baby hat and now working on the sweater for a little one due any day now. Yes, I have a million other things I planned to work on. But what fun is crafting if we can't do what we want when we want!!

  6. Well, deciding between knitting projects is not a bad problem - lol. I liked "Housekeeping" by M. Robinson, but have had a difficult time getting into any of her other books. Her writing is very poetical, but I found the later books to be a slog. On the flip side, I love the Louise Penny books! I would LOVE to live in Three Pines.

  7. Multiple projects close to being finished - what a wonderful knitting problem! I think I'd have to go for the mittens. They are so pretty and they'd be perfect for today's snowfall.

  8. I'm crawling along with my projects, but at least crawling. I got hooked on the Gamache books via audio and the reader was fantastic. Really brought the characters to life. I binge listened to the first 10...and then the reader passed away. I tried the new reader for book 11...and I. Just. Couldn't. Listen. So I'm going to have to request it from the library. Great series!

  9. I've ditched my sock plans and cast on a hat for waiting room knitting today. I'm super excited to knit a hat with some hazy yarn a friend mailed to me last fall. Plain old hat, lots of brim and color built in. Can't lose right?

  10. Your snowflake mitt is so pretty.

As for me ..... I think I have a finish coming up today. My Solar socks are oh-so-close to being done. Seeing as it is a "snow day", it should be a cinch to get the done today.

  11. I would finish the lovely mittens, they look so warm and cosy I would want to start wearing them as soon as possible. I’m quilting at the moment.

  12. Both projects look wonderful! I have given up on the shawl I was knitting, I'm not sure what I keep doing wrong but I keep messing up. I am seriously thinking of giving away all the yarn I have stashed and throwing in the towel. I just don't seem to have the knitting gene! Email me if you would like some lovely yarn (Most of which I got at Squam).

I've been working on printmaking, which is more up my alley! : )

  14. If you are working on a sleeve, you are making good progress. Gilead is such a peaceful beautiful book. Enjoy. And Inspector Gamache is good company too.

  17. Look at you reading two books at once! I like that mossy green yarn. I still have the same FO's. I should start bringing knitting in the car again. I read all of my leftover 2017 books so I'm happy about that.

  18. I already have several projects on the go and now have started Hectors big boy quilt, he has just moved from his cot into a toddler bed. Your needles are on fire, sleeves already...

  19. one of my favorite things about reading on a Kindle is how easy it is to highlight ... and then they all show up in one neat place.
