Weekends

My weekend was THE best weekend ever.  I sat and knitted away on all of my projects on the needles.  Honestly, it was soothing and calming, doctors should write prescriptions for this kind of wonderful mental medicine.

Do you see that above photo?  That is Little Miss Holly seeking out Frodo under his ottoman.  Usually she is afraid of him and hissing at him (he is just existing...).  Last night, she crept up to the ottoman and ever so gently put her paw under the skirt.  In and then out, repeatedly.  Frodo was a saint but could only take so much out of the usually mean kitten, so he scurried away afraid!

Holly then crawled under the ottoman to check out his 'thoughtful spot'.  He does all of his great thinking under there.

nearing the end of the first sleeve!

So I know you're thinking that all is well and Holly and Frodo are besties.  Nope.  Today, she was upstairs on the landing and I frightened her by going up the stairs.  She ran downstairs, saw Frodo (who was existing) and let out the biggest hiss and blew up like a blowfish and scurried into her sanctuary room.  Girls!!

Seriously though, there is progress with both of them and we are endlessly entertained by the drama.  I am not stressed as much anymore.  Frodo is being a kind gentlemen until his schnauzer-ness peeks out.  Holly is being a kitten.

adding the lining to my snowfling mitts
I am nearing the end of my two writing journals so I picked out two more from my endless stash of journals.  I have a daily journal and then a writing prompt journal, the difference between the two is the writing one might have a theme of some sort.  I've try writing about my childhood and my memories or my opinions to document my life.  The daily journal is what is happening and my list of gratitudes.

Since I'm continually complaining about the coffee table mess when we have company, I decided to show you the mess that is mine and how it's beautiful to me in every single way possible.

vera bradley vera tote - project bags made my my sister or I bought at a local yarn shop

Today we had chili from the freezer.  I'm settling into a few more hours of knitting before I get tired.  I might watch something on TV if 'you know who' is done watching football.  I have a feeling I'll be watching football.

How was your weekend?

  1. I love seeing Holly and her interacting with everyone. How funny she sought out Frodo and then they were opposites the next day. Glad you're less stressed.
Thank you for sharing what works for you, Karen. I think I will end up flying by the seat of my pants. Those who will follow me over in February know me.

  2. I love the beautiful 'mess'....I'd never call it a 'mess', though.....I'm seeing an awful lot of lovely woolen happiness there!!! :)

  3. Thanks for sharing your mess! Many surfaces in my house look the same way!
I see progress with Holly and Frodo. They will get there.

  5. Lovely knitting progress and also progress with Holly and Frodo coexisting! Other family members leave their junk and messes lying around; all my books , knitting, and yarn are valuable and necessary items. :-)

  7. That is great you had some good knitting and down time and you're right, it is good for us to have that time. I love reading about Frodo and Holly's developing relationship. It is so cute to imagine Holly poking her paws under the ottoman at Frodo and him eventually running away. It made me think of those videos of dogs being afraid of cats that I have seen on the Web. Holly is too adorable! Love those big eyes

  9. Karen, my table is much the same as yours which is normal for most people I suspect. It is only immaculate if I have prior warning of visitors. So much progress with Frodo and Holly, I am convinced that they are the best of friends really and its all done for effect.

  10. I have a Little Golden Book (that was mine back in the day) that we read A LOT. It is called the Tiny Tawny Kitten and it is about a scaredy cat who looks a lot like Holly and the days she acts bravely against the big dog next door. It's super cute.

  11. My weekend was full of knitting. But the week needs to be full of sewing! I have neglected WIPs in that area, instead casting on knits I had no plan of, or was planning to knit in February!

  12. Pictures of a messy table? As they say, here, hold my beer ;-D I'm so glad Holly and Frodo are at least thinking about settling in. They'll be fine once she grows up a little I'm sure :-).

  13. Love hearing about your lovely weekend. I had one that was similar. We had snow day (oh, my!) and it was beautiful to knit, paint, and be together. All my thoughts go to Frodo, who I know just because he is a schnauzer. He is a consummate gentleman.

  15. Oh those pictures of Holly are precious! Love the foot one especially and the one where she is poking her foot into Frodo's space...too cute. Your beautiful mess is what my entire house looks like - LOL. Of course my things are the "beautiful" part...Fletcher's things ae the "mess" part.

  16. Oh my goodness, Karen, that photo of Holly peeking under the couch is just precious.
It seems like she is settling in very nicely.

The sweater is looking great, and although I've said it before, it bears repeating...those mittens are gorgeous!!

    Have a great week!

  17. I am not really a cat person, but your Holly is such a cutie! (well, at least when she's not hissing at Frodo!) ... great progress on the sweater and the mittens - I LOVE LOVE LOVE that hot pink lining!!

  18. That Miss Holly is a piece of work! I love getting updates about her and Frodo. You should write a children's book featuring them! Our weekend was lovely. We had friends over for dinner on Saturday night and then on Sunday we took my mom out to dinner for her birthday. And, yes, there was a lot of football on the TV here as well! : )

  20. I think perhaps, just perhaps, you are responsible for my yearning for a kitten or a puppy. I need this phase to pass. Someone came to the barn with a cavalier king charles and I nearly begged for it . Poor Fireman just holds steady and says NOPE. Holly is going to be really comfortable with Frodo soon. catnip ? Do dogs do catnip? I do not know!! The cat book Im reading says to feed cats with a gate between them to get them to associate food with one another. WOULD that work for your two as they bond?

  21. I love the coffee table look although it doesn't look messy to me - just comfortably creative. That Holly has an adorable face. The football fan here is now watching UNL basketball this evening (Mon.) I'm in my knitting nest, reading blogs and then will knit and turn on an audio book.

  22. How FUN is that pink with the gray?!?! LOVE the way those mittens are turning out, Karen! And, such a beautiful sleeve. My space around my "spot" may resemble yours very much. I love being surrounded my my knitty mess. LOL! Holly is just so stinking cute! Has to make ones days brighter! Hope your week is as wonderful as your weekend was! blessings ~ tanna

  23. Can't wait to see what the pink on your mittens is going to turn into. I've been wondering if Holly was getting into your yarn now that she's becoming more adventurous, but it looks like she's more interested in toes than yarn. :)

  24. Love your mittens, are tables our always busy with crafting and work. Holly is a beautiful kitten, Frodo is so patient with her and hope she repays his patient and accepts him as someone who does not need to be hissed at.

  25. Holly is just too cute. Frodo of course has secured a place in my cute cupboard as well. Hearing of their very real working relationship gives me hope for some friends that are trying very hard to get a new puppy and a youngish cat to accept the fact they are family. The kitty was there first, but now feels relegated to her "Sister's" room and much like his big brother the puppy thinks he owns the home. It's all fascinating to me!

Your weekend sounds dreamy! I love a good knit. I definitely had some this weekend too and was able to finish a few small pieces that have been begging for a finish. :)

  26. I have two pups that are learning to live with each other and every day is an adventure. We're just grateful they seem to behave more like teenage siblings and aren't actually aggressive toward one another.

Your stitching looks lovely, and I love seeing pictures of notebooks! It always inspires me to write.

  27. Holly is such a fun treat. Poor Frodo- he is a gentleman because he is waiting it out, he knows she will grow out of it. :)
All the wonderful knitting happening. I am glad that you were able to have such a peaceful knitty weekend.
Your coffee table mess is beautiful to me as well.
