Knitting News and a Read Along

Since arriving home on Sunday,  I've been relishing my 'homebody' state of mind.  Traveling is difficult for me at times - I crave the sameness of my everyday.  Yet I want to see places and do things!  That is why a weekend getaway is the best.

My knitting has been the same.  I'm on the first sleeve of my sister's cardigan.  I'm confident this sweater will be off the needles within two weeks, okay, maybe three weeks if I'm busy.

green sheen!
The Holey Rectangle shawl is zipping along.  In a few more inches, I'll be deciding if the rectangle is wide enough.  I know blocking will make it wider but still, nothing wrong in reassessing.  I have a feeling all will be well.

My daughter invited me to participate in a read along with her for a classic novel during the month of May.  We discussed reading a classic novel together but could not decide on which classic novel.  She chose The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.  I know, I know, it is quite to door stopper of a book - it is HUGE.  My edition is 940 pages.  However, I will probably read it on my Kindle so I won't have to lug around a big book.  Also, I might read 5% a day on the kindle (who knows how many minutes/hours that will be!!).

My son and nephew are joining in on the read along, I thought it would be fun if any of you would like read with us as well.  Let me know if you are interested!

What are you knitting or crafting this week?

  4. Thanks for the invitation but I would still be reading it 4 years from now! The color of your sisters cardigan is classic (I love it) and you're making good progress! I like the sameness to my days, too, but crave something, one thing, new just to mix it up. :)

  6. Wow, that's quite the reading challenge! I'm looking forward to reading what you think about it (it's on my "one day" reading list). Your cardigan looks great! Mine is going slow, I keep getting distracted by other things. But I'll get there eventually.

  10. I am still recovering from Mexico. It was super stressful for me which is just nuts. I just don't like being far away from home. I love our home here. I think our next trip will be a super short one. I ve lost my trip confidence. So I understand and feel more normal when others feel as I do. Your sweater looks amazing. We are starting to get buds on shrubs here too. It is very exciting.

  12. A family book discussion sounds like a fine idea. Your sister is going to love that sweater. Travel is a bit of a mixed bag isn't it? Thanks to you and Kathy B for being honest. I always feel like the odd man out when I can't say that I love traveling. However I most often have a good time when I get where I am going.

  13. Please give us a review of the book. I think it’s awesome to do a read along. My sister and I do fun challenges. We’ve done 100 days of drawing faces and written a haiku a day for April. I’m not sure if I could finish Thr Brothers K by the end of May. I’m a sloooow reader.

  18. God bless you! My daughter read that book, I remember it took her forever! The sweater is looking great, as is the shawl. I'm still working on my cowl, can only do a few rows in a sitting because I have neuropathy in my right arm. : ) But I am still loving it! I just finished Children of Blood and Bone, it was great, a really good fantasy read. Have a great weekend, Karen!

  19. LOL! It makes me feel better about my own "homebody" issues with travel to read yours, Karen. We are leaving this evening and won't be back home until next Saturday night. I confess I feel a boding anxiety. It's kind of crazy. I want to travel and see things. But, I want to be home. Evan and I both are after four days away... READY to be home.

I love that your family is reading together! My daughter has only in the past year begun to enjoy reading and it has been such a pleasure for me to share that with her.

I'm STILL trying to make myself finish the Tegna I started AWHILE back. Distracted myself with that afghan and now... well progress is SLOW. I might knit a row or two then it's back in the basket. Maybe I will take it on this trip and make some progress.
