Weekends

Did you have the glorious weekend that I had weather wise?  Oh I hope so!  Saturday afternoon the thermometer was teasing into the 80's.  I know, you're wondering how can a winter lover be excited about warm weather.  Well, I have to admit I do not mind warm weather when there is little to no humidity.  I sat outside in the sunshine and read my book.  Frodo was not having the warm weather, he wanted back inside where it was a bit cooler.

I read Beartown and finished the book after a mini reading marathon.  I went to a local cafe for lunch by myself and cracked open the book (I was maybe 1/4 into the story).  Well let me tell you what!  I was caught up into the scenes, setting and events intensely.  After my lunch,  I returned home and read all afternoon,  took a break for dinner then proceeded to read until the early evening.  On Saturday morning I finished the book.  I highly recommend,  but I warn that it involves a sensitive subject, although not graphic in details.

I cannot remember the last time I was deeply engrossed in a novel.  I loved it!  Since I'm going through 'good book withdrawal', I'm reading a palate cleanser and switching to some non-fiction.  Hallelujah Anyway by Anne Lamott.  She makes me smile and I nod in agreement with nearly everything she says.

Sticking to my goals, I walked about with my big camera and snapped some photos.  I miss doing this on a regular basis and love getting into the routine.  I wonder why we as adults neglect to engage in the activities that bring us joy?  For me, I let other activities crowd out the fun ones.

This morning, I attended 7:30 a.m. Mass and was excited the music accompaniment was absent.  Super fast and efficient!  I'm still doing laundry, but the house is relatively clean.   I've cast on another knitting project in lace weight and I'm rejiggering the pattern.  I want a rectangle instead of a square.  Let's hope my math is correct.  I'll make a project page and share more for Wednesday's post.

Over the weekend, I chatted with a long-time friend who I haven't talked to in quite a while, it was nice to catch up and laugh and talk about our lives.

How was your weekend?

  2. Sounds like a perfectly lovely weekend to me. We used to havw 7:30 am mass and then they move it to 7. That half hour made a big difference. It use to be the "quiet " mass but the musuc is back in it now. I loved the nonmusical mass. Seemed more reverent.

  3. Saturday it rained buckets while we ran errands. Today was dry so I got out for an afternoon walk. Now some dinner and knitting on the couch. Hope your week goes well.

  4. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. I just started Beartown and your comments make me want to head right upstairs and get reading!!! LOL

It was a great week/weekend --- I caught up with a friend I have not seen in almost 30 years, I went to a yarn festival and I cast on a whole lot of new projects.

    On to the WEEK!!!!

  5. How lovely to read all afternoon! I haven't done that in a while although I did marathon a bit, Allegiant. I've been trying to get some knitting done.

  6. Reading all afternoon... that sounds great ! I can't remember when I last took time to do so...( shame on me ). So maybe I should, would be good to my arms/hands to get a little knitting-break too, I guess. Our weekend weather wasn't as good as yours, but that's okay, since it seems to make up for it today. And I spent yesterday afternoon indoors anyway, watching my 6 year old niece swimming for her second diploma/brevet - lovely to see !

  7. I love your photos! And what you say about activities that bring us joy... so true! I've been meaning to do exactly what you did - take the big camera out more - but I keep putting it aside to do other things.

  8. LOL! our temperatures were back down in the thirties overnight this weekend with HOWLING COLD wind! Blew the chairs over at the soccer field if you got up! Crazy cold wind! I'm going to order that book! I haven't had a great read in so long. All just so-so. I just finished Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and started one of the Jack Reacher series. Beautiful photos, Karen! We just have to keep reminding ourselves... Thank you. Have a wonderful week. blessings ~ tanna

  9. It was just the most glorious weekend, which was a good thing because we did a spring cleaning marathon in the yard. 17 plus bag later my body is hoping for a recuperation Monday! lol

  11. Sounds like you have a lovely weekend. The temps Saturday were so nice!! Our Sunday was 40 degrees cooler and just felt COLD. But Saturday I was at a fiber festival (with Dee) and had fun. Today it is a deluge of rain (at least not snow!!).

  12. Sounds like a wonderful weekend. Like you we have seen a great improvement in the weather so were able to potter a little outside and make plans. Life is good and I am thankful.

  13. Friday & Saturday were gorgeous here, while Sunday was stormy. Thankfully we didn't get the predicted tornadoes and the worst of the storms didn't hit until about 3 minutes after I got home from work. I timed it perfectly! :) Love your signs of spring photos & can't wait to see your newest lacy project.

  14. Saturday was an amazingly nice day here, too. I can't say the same for Sunday, but the cold, rainy weather then was great for reading. I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of the next book in the Beartown trilogy (Us Against You) and am finding it just as good (or maybe even better) than the first. What a wonderful, immersive way you chose to read Beartown! That sounds perfect, and I am inspired to get as much done as possible today so I can try your approach with Us Against You tomorrow.

  16. Here it was chilly and sunny, and then cold and damp with a bit of snow. At the moment is it POURING rain. I am amazed to see how much further along spring is in your area. Eighty degrees sure sounds nice! I spent the weekend writing letters, running errands, and my working on lesson plans. I' have my nose in a good book during my spare moments: Sarah Lark's, In the Land of the Long White Cloud. I'll have to take a look at Beartown.

  17. Oh Karen, I laughed when I read that Frodo escaped indoors on Saturday because Popeye did the same! He actually knows how to open the sliding screen and snuck inside when I wasn't looking. It gave me a little scare, when I realized he was no longer in the yard but when I called for him he answered from inside the house which cracked me up! The weather was divine on Saturday, I spent most of the day in the garden and then headed to my first piano recital. It was a day full of pleasure!

  18. Cool and rainy is what our weather was like. Then Sunday it turned down right cold...28*! Now I have added another book from you blog! :) Thanks for the recommendation!

  19. My weekend was devoted to work, friends, food and exercise - the best way for me to recharge for the new week in the office!! The book sounds fascinating!!

  20. It’s ages since I spent a whole weekend reading, I thought retirement would provide lots of opportunities but I always find other things to do. The weekend weather was perfect for gardening, I managed to mow the lawn, trim the edges, prune roses, pull up some weeds and generally tidy up. I also had a nice chat with my next door neighbour, everyone is coming out of hibernation! I’m glad Holly is recovering well.

  21. GOod for you and the read!! Wow that was fast. Our weekend was snowy. Very difficult on those who had to go out or fly. We did not have to do either. We did watch a wild Cub game in the freezing chicago baseball field and it was a doozy.
It is so cold I picked up my log cabin blanket to work on for the first time in months.

  22. Your bit about loving that the music accompaniment was absent made me laugh - that's one of the favorite parts of our service (of course I'm Presbyterian - the music is a lot different) and I would've been a grumpy camper to miss it! Looks like you're out of your reading slump and I LOVE that new knitting project. Here's to a good week!

  23. No eighties here since, hmmm, can't even remember. We did get in a walk to the grocery store and back home with only a few drizzles though. I just finished a book called Treasoning that kept me guessing until the very end. Now I need to see if I can find Beartown; it's around here somewhere, I think. Have a good week, and happy knitting!

  24. Jealous of your weather! We had an ice storm Saturday into Sunday. But hey when you're a knitter, who cares!
