Weekends

Another weekend has come and gone, how was yours?  Maybe just maybe the fireworks are over around here.  Every night since Thursday some town or family has been setting them off.  Luckily they are in the distance and I can sleep through them.

My weekend was boring, isn't that wonderful?

In a nutshell I did some knitting, reading, painting and all those pesky chores that demand my attention.  I feel rested and ready for another week.  On Saturday we stayed home, my husband did some outside yard work while I stayed inside with lovely AC and knitting.

We went to Saturday night Mass then picked up our pizza.  Not only do the front counter girls know me but now the owner says 'your pizza is just coming out of the oven'.  We order the same thing every single week (large pizza with mushrooms and black olives).  Initially I felt embarrassed that I'm 'known'.  Now I don't care, I'm a regular - I am supporting a local business and eating yummy food.

I painted both Saturday and Sunday.  I focus on what I learn but oh boy the mistakes or challenges are abundant.  My husband has been doing soft pastels and oil pastels.  We celebrate our successes and commiserate on our mistakes, it's a fun aspect of our marriage.

How was your weekend?

  1. The weekend here was rather soggy! But, there were good things - good food and I am insanely thankful for AC.

  2. What a perfect weekend! It was stinking hot and humid, wasn't it? Your pizza sounds wonderful to me (and I usually always order the same pizza too). Love your sketching and painting. My weekend was filled with friends, food and fun times.

  3. How nice to be known at your local pizzeria. Sadly we have to travel 26 miles to get pizza so not really an option for us. Sounds like you had a restful weekend enjoying simple pleasures.

  4. Looks like YOUR weekend was filled with lots of color. It's not a "bad" thing to be known by the local businesses. That is how we make community! :-) I love when the shop owners know my "usual".

  5. I told Marc we could see the water in the air ... boy was it muggy here, too! and FWIW, I think it's wonderful to be a regular someplace "sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name ... and they're always glad you came" :-)

  6. I like the idea of being a regular somewhere.. the only one who knows we like that is my photo lab :)
    Sounds like a lovely weekend.

  9. I love being a regular! I've only been "known" at the pizza place in NJ, but I'm working on becoming a regular at a really nice tavern here in Elkton. Your painting is lovely!

  11. We had a nice weekend after the fireworks barrage - personal fireworks allowed for two days and it is insanity here. We order the same veggie pizza from a local pizza/hoagie restaurant. Your painting is so pretty.

  12. Keith goes to the same greasy spoon for breakfast every Saturday, and they have his food ready when he gets there. He loves being a regular.
I love boring weekends because that usually means that I had lots of time for art. We are still helping out my in-laws as my MIL recovers from colitis, but I did find time to make some earrings with a friend.

  13. I'm in awe of your artistic abilities! As for being a regular, I used to be embarrassed when the local chinese takeout place knew my order ahead of time but being known can come in handy. I accidentally left my credit card there once and they not only called me to tell me, they offered to deliver it to my house!

  14. Hello, Karen! We spent the weekend up in Montreal, where our daughter will be married this winter. We got to meet her fianceé's parents, who were just lovely. We feel doubly blessed!

I have FINALLY finished the baby blanket that I started a while ago and am eager to send it off to the mother-to-be. She is due any day now so I completed it in a nick of time! : )

  15. I finished a pair of socks and started another pair. I have been obsessed with knitting socks lately. I also read an entire book for my book club Monday night, Where The Crawdads Sing. It was great!!!! A good weekend overall.

  16. Ha ha, love the pizza welcome. Because my groups (book club and knit & natter) both meet in the local pub, when my husband takes me for a meal, he's always amused at the chatter in there. They are friendly and offer me my usual drink or usual table. It's embarrassing! It looks like you had a good weekend doing all the things you love, perfect. Take care, Cx
