Creative Spells

I've been trying to come up with outings for the two of us that are socially distant. So far walking and hiking have been my brilliant idea. The weather was unusually warm last week and yesterday was quite chilly. We picked up some bagel sandwiches for lunch and valiantly tried to eat them outside. We gave up and went to the car.

We are discovering trails that are new to us in our community. It won't be long before the weather will be too cold for outdoor adventures. I confess I loved wearing my favorite winter hat that I made so long ago.

I remember buying the wool with my sister at an indoor fiber festival. This green hat is the first hat that I loved to wear and commenced a flurry of hat knitting.

I painted a thank you card this week. Ever so slowly I've been pulling out the paints and dabbling a bit here and there. I'm amused at how I go into and out of creative spells. Right now I am into art journalling with ink. The journal paper can take a wee bit of watercolor but not the layers that can be done on watercolor paper. Still I am enjoying whatever I am creating when I am creating.

I'm hoping that I finish that second sock this weekend.

Usually I am sharing Frodo photos here and this week dear sweet Miss Holly decided to stop and pose for me. I love when she does a walk-about through the family room many times while pausing in front of the ottoman where Frodo is sleeping and snoring away. Does she want him to come out and chase her? Who knows. She walks by him, she checks out what I am doing, she looks out each window for a bit then does a walk around the kitchen.

  1. I don't have any brilliant suggestions for socially distant outings other than walking and hiking that you've already thought of. I try to vary my walks so I will hopefully see something new. While it is less comfortable in the chilly, rainy weather we are currently experiencing, it gives you a reason to wear all those lovely knitted items. Maybe you need to knit some nice, squishy socks for yourself!

  2. We haven’t even tried socially distant outings but I am ordering a new pair of winter walking boots today so I can still get outside. I also need to knit a warm hat. Most of mine are pretty color work but not thick enough to keep my ears warm.

  3. I have no socially distant ideas either. Although, we are doing more things outdoors for a "change of scenery" and I gently reminded Steve that the LP gas tanks needed to be refilled, lol. Happy weekend!

  4. Socially distanced outings are a challenge. With our numbers going up again, we will be limiting our outings too. My front porch is my "safe zone" where I can watch my neighborhood. Several other neighbors are now sitting out in their front yards too. This is not the norm for this part of the US. We normally all stay in our fenced backyards. With your winter temps, that is not such a grand idea for you. Not to mention you live in a very rural area. I think Holly has become quite enamored with Frodo. She's helping to keep him young with her antics. Good luck on finishing the sock. You are such a speedy knitter. It takes me at least a full week to finish a sock after the heel turn. That means nothing else gets worked on.

  5. I love pretty Miss Holly! I'm the same way with art, really into it for awhile then I go on dry spells. I do the same with reading. Enjoy your walks while it's not too cold to get out there. Have a great weekend :)

  6. Sadly I have no suggestions to add walking is about all that we have. I am experimenting with water colour and using the sewing machine to sew the outline. I haven't quite mastered it to a high standard yet it is a work in progress but I will share it on my blog soon. Have a good weekend.

  10. Yep, we have done and are still doing a lot of walking and hiking. Getting cold and snowy here, though, so we are still walking around the neighborhood, but hiking in the mountains and canyons will have to wait for warmer, dryer weather. Love those knitted socks! Have a good weekend.

  11. Sadly I have no good ideas for socially distant activities. We do the same things week after week, good thing I’m a creature of habit! We were supposed to meet with friends for an outside socially distant get together. We ended up canceling as it just didn’t seem like a good idea. So it’s more of the same thing for us.

  12. plum out of socially distancing ideas!!! and I don't know about PA but KY is spiraling out of control. Going to the grocery store is a major risk these days. We're having 'fun' trying to remove the doorknob plates that have nearly 100 years worth of paint on them and cleaning them up. Hoping hubby doesn't start wishing for a bout of covid so he can stop! (We're on #2....only 14 to go!!!!)

  13. Your thank you card is so pretty! I love your watercolor work. We do a lot of hiking as well and feel lucky because there are so many beautiful trails in our town. When the snow comes (IF it comes!) we have snow shoes and cross country skis to enjoy using. Adjusting to retirement during a pandemic has been tricky! We find we run out of things to talk about because our social lives are now kept to a bare minimum, LOL!

Miss Holly is a beautiful model! xo

  14. I love that hat, thank you for sharing the pattern, you can never have too many hats! Socially distanced activities, nope not got any ideas for that, sorry. We are in lockdown here so not much we are allowed to do right now....

  15. I play tennis with my sister and then we sit at opposite ends of a park bench to enjoy a beer and an hour of conversation. honestly, that's about as much socializing as I'm doing these days!

  16. I often wonder why cats go where they go, look where they look, and nap where they nap, They seem very random!
I love your flowers drawing/painting. Very lively and free.
I have a favorite hat, too! Yes, it's one I made.

  17. Minnie comes by me very often and rubs herself against me. I love that although I don't know if she's kissin butt because she's hungry when she's actually on a diet of 1/2 cup of kibble a day that's broken up into four, 1/8 cups.

  18. I like that painting/drawing. Art journaling sounds very interesting. We walk also. Occasionally we drive out to a trail or lake a ways from town for a change of scenery. We do that during the week so as not to run into too many people on the trails. The trails are nice but well used. Positivity rate in our area is climbing. Your two pets are learning to co-exist. They are cute.
