Daydreams

So while I was at my knitting classes last week, the shop received a partial order of Malabrigo yarns.  I tried and I tried to resist purchasing yarn.  You see, I have lots.  I do!  But I didn't own this beautiful skein of Malabrigo sock in the turner colorway.  That is how I justified the purchase.  I have a funny feeling that every time I teach, I'm coming home with yarn.

My daydreams consist of new projects to knit while my current projects linger around calling my name.  This sweet little skein is destined to be a cowl.  I'm itching to cast on but so far have controlled myself and have been focusing on finishing up my sweater (I'll save that conversation for yarn along).

I spent six weeks daydreaming about a clean coffee table and a clean kitchen counter and it became reality this weekend.  I love everything in its place and having order.  But I do miss the kids.  They are both getting busy and I'm not sure if there'll be a family vacation this year.  My daughter is working through the summer at an externship which I think is flexible, but my son has applied to many REUs (Research Experience for Undergraduates) and those dates are all over the place. It makes me appreciate the trip we took to South Carolina in May.

So on this chilly morning I daydream of beaches and sand and the possibility of getting all together.  (I am not tired of winter! we usually book vacations by spring)

Life is full of adjustments, isn't it?

  1. That Malabrigo is so pretty, my lys doesn't carry it, but I have my fingers crossed that one day it will.

Life is full of adjustments, which is very hard for me. I do not handle change well and truth be told, I wish my babies were all still here under my roof. I miss them...a lot.

  2. Sure I wouldn't' t have resisted that yarn either. None of my local shops stock malarial so I' 've never used it. Might have to have a browse online....

  3. I went to a new (to me anyway) crafting store this weekend with a friend who had wanted to go. It has all kinds of quilting/sewing stuff and a whole wall of yarn. I told one of the staff members that working in a store like that would not be good for me. I would be home no paycheck.

  4. Life is full of adjustments....I love that. The constant shifting and reordering of things and finding things new all over again. I love your daydreams:) I have been daydreaming of homeschooling, pulling my children out of school and traveling all over the world showing them the beauty all around them....maybe. Someday. But until then, I'll just daydream:) XO

  5. I love the yarn AND your pretty coffee mug : )

I'm not sure I could work in a yarn shop...it would probably bring financial ruin to my family!

I've been thinking of you lots and hoping that your ankle is getting better and that you've found some relief for your arthritis pain.

  7. Oh that yarn is gorgeous!!! I would have had a hard time leaving that at the shop myself. We may not get a family vacation this year either. My daughter is starting college in the summer to get a jump on things and I don't think that will leave much time off for her.

  10. You never have to justify Malabrigo...in my humble opinion (for what that's worth). It has settled down at our house also. However, the oldest will be back in a week to get fitted for a new retainer. I'll enjoy having him around.

  11. My son will be 22 this year. I find this stage of motherhood tricky - he still lives at home, but is an adult with his own separate life from us, and though I feel he still needs support and guidance from time to time, he often doesn't think so. There also don't seem to be any books to read on the subject or many other people writing about this stage of parenting! It's certainly a challenge.

    1. I will always mother but like you said it's a balance of know when to mother. I'm lucky that the kids are open to what we say as parents (so far).

  12. oh yes, the adjustments - how different for the two of us as we are in different seasons of mothering, but still, i value our connection.
my daydreams include sandy beaches too... let's see if they become reality this year...

  13. Every time I think I have it all figured out, we have another adjustment! (I think) I am finally learning to immerse myself in the moment I'm in and stay open to what will be coming down the road in time.

  14. Love the beautiful malabrigo you brought home. I took a look through my stash yesterday and panicked about the volume...
Some many changes in this life. And I'm slow to embrace it. But they make things interesting.

  16. Gorgeous yarn! And yes, its all about the adjustments. I feel like I am constantly adjusting and readjusting but I like to think that flexibility will be what keeps our little family wanting to spend time together. My parents became empty nesters rather fast, their oldest two married their college sweethearts a week apart, their youngest left for college a month later... lots of adjusting happened but now when we all gather under one roof it is a glorious thing!
