Knitting Frenzy

Let's just say I went a little crazy with the casting on, however I've been in a blissful state of happiness that every knitter knows.  There is nothing, NOTHING, like starting a new project.  I love mulling over my choices of patterns and yarns and thinking of what I want to start.  I do this a lot, it is my choice of daydreaming when I've got a bit of time.  Standing and waiting in the grocery store checkout?  I'm thinking about sock patterns.  Looking at the leaves on the trees turning?  I'm thinking about a skein of yarn in my stash that looks exactly like those leaves....what should I make?

So now I will introduce you to the madness.  The first photo is a new pair of socks for me.  I haven't made a new pair of socks for me in a few years.  I tend to knit for my husband.  When I bought those two skeins of orphaned sock yarn many years ago, I knew that they would be socks and though a bit on the ugly color combinations, I fell in love with the colorway!  So pretty!  I'm knitting monkey with this yarn.  I've knit this sock pattern many times and it's like revisiting an old dear friend.

Next up is a new shawl with a skein of fingering weight yarn I bought at a fiber festival many years ago.  Do you ever buy a skein and it's so pretty that you don't knit with it?  Sometimes I find I do that.  I just want to look at it because it's skeined up goodness is too lovely to wind into a ball.  I found a shawl pattern that is perfect for this skein, Nae looks like it will showcase the drape of this yarn.

Last but not least is another, yes another sockhead hat.  I am using wool leftovers from this and this.  This hat will be my knit and read hat because of it's simplicity.  The hat could be a gift or I might just keep it. I'm knitting two rows of each color until I run out.

So have you ever started a few projects all at the same time?  Did you finish them in a timely matter?
What's on your needles that is making you happy?

  1. I think I'm in the minority here, I prefer one project at a time. Yours do look lovely, the yarns are fabulous!

  2. I often have a lot on the needles at once, but tend to focus on just one thing. Which means that one WIP gets finished in a timely manner ... but not the others. :)

  5. I like the yarn you are using for the shawl. That has Autumn written all over it. Very pretty! I'm almost done with the first sleeve on my sweater. I'm anxious to get it done. It's getting way too big to work on. I can't wait to go back to my Brickless shawl.

  7. I love that you are having such fun casting on new projects. I just cast on a little top for Emerson, twice actually because I didn't like the lace section so I'm knitting it without.
I am casting on a wrap today to join along in Andie's fall KAL, you should join, I think it would be perfect for you.

  8. Beautiful yarns in your photos. I've been thinking about hats lately and browsing through lots of patterns. Your lovely blue yarns remind me of a skein I have - somewhere - that would be perfect for a hat. Time for a little stash dive! :-)

  9. I just cast on a new pair of plain jane ribbed socks last night. IM delighted to be using the yarn my daughter gifted me in August for my birthday. I am so monagomous with my knitting. I almost never knit more than one thing at a time.

  11. I already have two projects on the needles, a blue sweater and a shawl. I'll also be casting on a pair of socks, probably tomorrow, for Socktoberfest on ravelry. Your yarns are lovely. I really like that sock yarn.

  13. Karen, I'm in the craziest casting on frenzy I've ever had... or wanna-cast-on frenzy. Today I cut myself off at the pass from casting on another one. LOL! I know you will have these all finished before I can turn around good. ;) blessings ~ tanna

  16. Well, aren't you having fun! Your sock yarn is just perfect for this time of year, and I can't wait to see that finished shawl. You must have an awesome shawl wardrobe! Love the hat yarn, too! What are you casting on next.....LOL

  17. I often have a few things on the go. At the moment there is a washcloth that needs a little flower made and sewn into the corner, a cowl Christmas present for my son that I am just casting on (for about the fourth time, see my blog for details, arrgh) and the poncho that I have been working on for months and am bored with.

I have never knitted socks, and would love to try. It's on my list, maybe in the New Year when all the Christmas gifts are done.

  18. cast on frenzy? who, me????? you jest, right!!!? Actually, I have been fairly quiet with the cast-ons lately, which has me somewhat worried. Would hate to think the 'mojo' is planning an escape! Love every single thing you're working on (of course!!!). off to cast on something....

  19. I often buy yarn because of it's beauty...particularly Miss Babs - her colorways are amazing. Love that scarf. I've actually been thinking about using some Miss Babs on that, but I don't have enough...sigh. Might just have to buy some more ;)

  21. I love your top yarn selection! I mull over projects way too much and never start!

  22. I love those blues you're using in the hat and the orangey red of the autumnual skein! I have kept a skein of sophies toes called iris garden and never wanted to use it because it was so pretty. Then last week I joined a mystery KAL - lonely yarn. I decided the Sophies toes was lonely and used it with a mad tosh. I am enjoying the knit immensely and alternately adore the combination and wish I had save it and used it by itself... Also on the needles is a Color Affection shawl with miles of garter. I was trying to make myself finish this before casting on another project but your post seems to be giving me permission to start that cowl my daughter wants and maybe some socks (I always have a pair on the needles) and....
