The Spirit of the Season

My sister gave me those lovely project bags (that she made!) and the quince yarn and that wee button for my Christmas or birthday gift.  Sadly I cannot recall since we exchange our birthday gifts during the Christmas exchange.  I have been heavily hinting that I wanted some project bags.  This was the hint:  'hey sis, I really want you to sew me a project bag' .  When we were at the fiber festival, I pointed out several that I wanted her to make me.   See?  That's how you get it done.  Anyways, I put some pretty red wool in the red project bag, gearing up for casting on some socks for my daughter.

My husband gets his stitches out of his hand tomorrow morning - hallelujah!  These two weeks have been challenging.  I'm ready for him to resume all previous duties that were agreed upon when we married.  I'm sure he is more than ready to take a shower without wrapping up his hand to keep dry.

socks to be!
I've been playing my old Ipod nano on a old docking station for my holiday music during dinner preparations.  My candle warmer is wafting out balsam fir scent as I sit here and type my post.  The spirit of the season is here and I'm enjoying the feeling. My gift knitting list has dwindled since the bulk of the knitting was for the family exchange.  I have only a pair of socks and maybe a few hats to knit.  Easy.

My house is decorated and each evening I sit and enjoy the lights.  I enjoy decorating the house, so many items were crafted by my mother and I remember her when I place each one out for everyone to see.  I treasure all of them!

Both my sister and I inherited her creativity.  My mother would sew, quilt, knit, crochet, cross stitch and do some embroidery.  I grew up watching her sit in her rocking chair with her crafting tools beside her on the side table.

I have her knitting notebook of sweaters she made for my kids and my nephew with the measurements, needle size and yarn brands listed.  She wrote tallies for each and every row.  (I do not do that at all....).  She would have loved Ravelry.

my mother made the santa and Mrs Claus,  the table cloths and the fabric Christmas tree centerpiece

  2. Those project bags are going to pamper your knitting. Thank you for sharing your decorating. It is fun to get out the things made by others. I need to run around with a dust cloth and vacuum and then pull the totes off the basement shelves. It is beginning to feel like Christmas. And hooray for stitch removal - that is your husband's stitches. Best of luck.

  6. I would like your sister to be my sister! Instead I have 3 brothers (none of whom sew and their spouses don't either). Love your decorations and so nice all the memories you have with them all.

  7. Those are very nice project bags! I really like how you have decorated your house and I look forward to decorating mine next week. I sing with the university choir as part of the Oratorio Society (OS, or as the students call us, "old singers") and we have our holiday concert on Sunday, so this week has been full of long & late rehearsals. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  15. Your sister is amazing. I really want to learn to make project bags. It has to be cheaper than buying them, right? Or not. There is such a thing as a fabric stash, right.
Your house looks both peaceful and festive.

  16. I love all of your Christmas decorations! Your tree looks so fun to look at. I used to think we had enough ornaments but we actually need more. How awesome your sis sewed up some project bags for you. I'm always checking out ppl's work on their bags to see how much seam allowance they used from the zipper and how far they sewed for the top seams. Did she interface the cotton at all?
