Do What You Love

Hello!  Can you believe that not only is it July but it's a hot and steamy beginnings of this month?  I'm wilting, no wait, I'm melting like the Wicked Witch of the West.  I would love Dorothy to come and throw a cold bucket of water on me.  Seriously though, if I could hug my air conditioning system I would.

Well most of our plants that we planted before our vacation have survived.  We have one butterfly bush that is trying desperately to die but we refuse to give up on it.  We have two columbine plants that are technically dead (!) but my husband insists that there might be growth deep down under.  I hope he is correct.

During the past fall and spring when I was 'busy' with the gym three days a week and babysitting two full days, I was tempted to cut back on my three days a week of blogging.  I felt swamped and overwhelmed.  I felt something had to give in my days.

You see, on the days I babysit I could not do much else for the rest of the day because I was so tired.  I frequently wonder how I did motherhood full time way back when.  Youth does have its advantages.

Okay back to the blogging story.  I resisted my thoughts.  I resisted giving into changing what I do, what I LOVE to do.  I wanted to wait until the summer when I knew I was on break and see how I felt about the blogging schedule when I knew I would have more time and feel more relaxed.  I'm not one to change things on a whim.  I started blogging in August 2010, I've published 1690 posts not including this one.

You see, I love to talk.

I went to Catholic schools all my life, I was in the last row last seat placed strategically by alphabet order.  And I talked much to the dismay of the nuns.  I talked to my desk neighbor and I talked to myself.  I have a running dialogue going in my head day in and day out.

Blogging for me is an excellent way to talk.  I rarely have an issue deciding what to talk about with you.  If you and I met for lunch, I would start talking and asking questions.  We would be laughing and enjoying ourselves and wondering where did the time go when it was time to say goodbye.

So while I felt overwhelmed with my schedule, I knew that my schedule was going to change in this fall.  I expressed my desire to babysit only one day a week in the fall when school starts up again.  I know this slight change will be good for me.  I'll only be exhausted one day a week!

I'm glad I resisted my thoughts of curtailing my posts, altering my 'schedule' and giving up something that I ordinarily love to do.  Through blogging I'm connecting with like minds, sharing my crafting, my creativity and yes even the challenges of juggling a schedule.

Do what you love!

I am recovered from the traveling and the vacation.  I woke up this morning and made coffee and didn't think about how much I missed my coffee maker (or bed, or dog, or cat...).  It was an ordinary morning for me.

Frodo and Holly are back to their usual antics.  We still live in a dog/cat zone and both seem to be happy about the arrangement.  Frodo is terrified of thunderstorms but the firework noise last night didn't bother him one bit.  I wonder why?

After changing the wool to madeline tosh lace, my banana leaf project is meeting my internal approval and I love picking up the project.  Yesterday I finished a cowl, which is soaking right this very minute.  I cast on another scrappy cowl.

Miss Holly purrs when I pick her up sometimes.  This is huge!  Every morning I force my love on her for one second of a pick up and a pet.  She is coming around to loving it.  She thrives on a schedule just like me.

  1. I'm glad you have worked things out to your liking, and that we won't have to be without you!

I had to laugh at your story of Catholic school. In 4th grade, I remember that we had our seats changed, and the quietest girl in the class was purposely sat next to me. She had straight A's in Conduct. By the end of the semester, my Conduct grade was the same, and hers was now a C.

  2. Holly's so big now! They grow so fast, yeah? Our kittens are only 15 weeks old but they're bigger now. Mortie purrs a lot; it makes me smile when I'm petting her and she's snoozing, all laid on on my daughter's bed and purring away. Minnie likes me but doesn't purr for me; she does purr for her mama/my youngest at nighttime when she snuggles up close to her in the dark.

  3. Yeah for us! We love your posts!!! I love your dog/cat stories!!! The columbine would only flower in April and May in Chicago. Then it would die until the next Spring.

  5. Time and patience ................it took almost 2 years before I ever heard Giroux purr. Another year before he sat touching me. He sat close, but always out of arm's reach. Now ........he is starting to be s snuggler.

So, there is hope with time and a whole lot of love. (I guess that could actually pertain to a lot of problems in life. LOL)

  6. Thrilled you have managed to work out your shedule and we won't be losing you. I love to visit and watch the antics of Frodo and Holly and of course the divine knitting that I drool over. I like to talk to so meeting for lunch would be a wonderful experience.

  8. Glad you got your schedule worked out. I really struggle during the summer months with my blog because of my crazy 60+ hour work weeks. In past years I've slowly abandoned the blog until fall rolls around and I have more time but this year, I'm determined to keep up my blog post schedule, even if it means I'm just phoning it in. Which I am, and it shows... but I'm meeting my self imposed schedule so I'm okay with it. Happy to hear everything else in your life seems to be going well too!

  10. I love to talk too, but actually am a bit shy in person. Glad you are going down to one day in the Fall. It should help you feel more energized and give you much more time. I have been a whirlwind the last two days and that includes driving 10 hours home form NC. When I don't work I have such energy, but working 4 12/13 hour days in a row really exhausts me physically and emotionally. Still it is a necessity so I am glad I have a job I love.

  11. I'm not so much a talker, but I do LOVE to write and read ... and that makes this little corner of the internet one of my favorite places to visit. Thank you for being part of it!

  13. I'm glad you are able to go down to one day a week in the fall. I would love to teach part-time, but I carry the family health insurance! We do get good insurance, so I am committed to one more year. In February I'll have to decided if I can do the 20-21 school year.
Like you, I am exhausted after a full day of work. I don't get anything done around the house during the school year! NPR and knitting are about all I can handle!

    1. take it one year at a time! My husband is eligible to retire and he is taking it semester by semester. I'm okay with that approach.

  14. I'm glad you'll continue your blog commitments, I've become sporadic with mine which is not good. I'm must get back to regular blogging. It's good to catch up with your news including Holly & frodo. Take care, Cx

  15. I too am pleased you will continue to blog. I enjoy your posts. I smiled when I read about how you like to talk. I like to think in my head and have endless conversations with myself. I might be better off talking to someone besides myself. Your projects look intriguing. I hope they go well. Don't you love it when pattern and yarn come together? And hurray for scrappy projects.

  16. Karen, I am so glad that you requested to only work one day a week starting in the fall. When I read about how much it exhausts you I feel a strange reassurance; I seem to tire easily on busy days as well, despite my walking and taking vitamins. I forget I have an autoimmune disease and need to listen more to my body.

I'm so glad you will continue blogging, I love reading your posts! I haven't posted in such a long time, I seem to be in a bit of a funk. My days are taken up with getting to know Rambo. I forgot how time consuming a puppy can be! xx

  17. Hopefully your columbine are just 'resting'. I know my bleeding hearts do this. Thought I lost them a couple of times and then there they were the next year. Stay 'cool'.
