Around Here

Around here I've been hiding inside my house while the humidity has slowly climbed to a somewhat sticky level.  The wild roses are finished blooming and at any moment the day lilies will bloom.  Every morning when I'm outside with Frodo we check the plants.  On our walks, I've seen bee balm blooming but mine is being kind of shy right now.  I've spotted some elderberry bushes blooming and they reminded me of my gram who would make elderberry pie when we were at her summer cottage.

The cement guy came and leveled all of the uneven pieces around the pool, sometime next week the landscaper is coming to do his thing.  We have some flowering plants that need to be relocated before he regrades the corner of our property or we'll lose them.  The new boulder retaining wall is supposed to take two days.  I'm excited.

Around here I decadently read ALL day yesterday.  The memoir, Educated, is really good and I can't put it down.  It's funny because I was sure I would not like the book, silly me.  I know I will be done with the book by Sunday because it is being returned on Monday to the library.  I'll be picking up my next pile of books!

Around here I finished that pink sweater and it's sitting in the laundry room waiting for me to steam block the button bands and edging.  I nearly finished the above shawl only to realize that I do not have enough yarn so I had to undo two rows.  Any knitting after 7 p.m. is a slippery slope of bad decisions for me.  I could tell that the yardage wasn't enough and yet I still proceeded.

Around  here my creativity has been great with knitting, but my sketching and painting has been minimal this week.  I guess I'm taking a breather for now.  Eventually I want to do some sketching or painting everyday for an hour.  I do paint on the weekends but weekdays seem elusive.

  1. A new sock cast-on? Anxious to see your finished sweater and shawl. Your pool looks so inviting! Hope you have a good weekend (I think it will be a wet one).

  2. Everything looks so green and lush! I have some bee balm blooming but I can't remember planting it at all. I haven't seen any bees on it, but they sure are enjoying the clover!

  6. Playing my least favorite game of catch up and first, congratulations about the engagement. I know you must be thrilled to be sending the couple off to the wilds of Indiana with the promise of a wedding ;-) along with good (safe from falls) walks, knitting, reading, and watercolors, I think your summer is shaping up nicely!

  7. Wow, that pool looks awesome. It is 85 degrees here, so it's no wonder
I'm always vowing to draw/paint daily. Why is that so hard?

  8. That pool looks just so refreshing! Wow. I'd love to take a dip in a pool. We were out on the paddle boards today for 2 hours. The Lake water is nearly 68 degrees. So its okay if we fall in. and almost refreshing! I can't wait to see your shawl on you!

  9. Everything looks gorgeous. At least in the heat you are surrounded by greenery. We just have dried up paddocks in summer and it gets pretty sad looking. Congrats on finishing the sweater - and I see you are on to something new.

  10. Your area looks summery green and lush. Why is it we aren't good about listening to the voice in our head that asks, "do you really want to continue or do this?" That is beautiful pool. I hope the landscaping adventure goes well.

  14. As others have said your pool looks so inviting. It must be wonderful on hot humid days (we don't get them here that often for which I am thankful). I am sorry to hear that you are paying yardage chicken once again, I am sure you have played that recently if I am remember rightly? I do hope you can work out how to fix that problem.

  15. We have been enjoying our above ground pool the last few humid days. We don't have enough space for an inground pool. I hope you can finish that shawl soon. The new sock yarn is pretty.

  16. Your pool water looks so cold! It's beautiful, but looks cold! I'm so sorry you had to pull out your knitting. Glad you found reading time though.
