Silence is Golden

The landscaper guys finished up their work yesterday afternoon.  Frodo and I are thrilled to have a bit of peace and quiet.  The backhoe would make a certain sound whenever it hit the ground and that made Frodo believe someone was knocking on the door.  He exhausted himself from his on again off again barking.  He exhausted me.  Whenever the equipment was humming and droning, Frodo thought there was a thunderstorm and shivered in fear sitting next to me looking at me with worry.

Of course, whenever someone is working on your property you can't help but watch or catch a glance whenever you pass a window.  That is why nothing got done around here, I couldn't concentrate.  Yesterday I just gave into the fact that I would be distracted and went with the flow.  We are thrilled with our boulder wall, a little sad that it faces the woods and we cannot stare at it lovingly from our windows.  However the amount of fill and topsoil they added to the corner of our property should be the solution to our shifting land.  Also my husband's mowing experience with be safer and faster.

When I'm not watching the landscapers I'm watching tutorials on colored pencils.  I've fallen down a wonderful rabbit hole.  Just when I think I've exhausted the internet, something new pops up in my brain and I'm transported into a new learning experience.  Life with internet is a blessing.

Right now I'm sitting at my kitchen table, listening to the birds sing.  I've got lots of computer work to attend to this morning. After that I'll be baking some blueberry muffins.  Tonight we will be watching Hamilton (finally!).  I've worked myself up into a frenzy of anticipation to see this musical.

I keep thinking I am close to the lace border on this shawl and whenever I count I am disappointed that I have many many rows to go before I get to the fun part.  Maybe today will be the day I can start the lace portion.

I hope you all have a fun safe weekend!  Happy Fourth of July to all of you who live in the USA!

  4. I was mesmerized by looking out the window when workers took down some trees a few weeks ago. I know that feeling. You have found a wonderful rabbit hole, and your Goldfinch is beautiful! Happy Fourth!

  6. So glad that your wall is finished and you can have some quiet. Your shawl is beautiful. I used to love drawing with colored pencils. It has been quite a long time, but you have piqued my interest in it. Oh great, just another hobby/craft to add to a long list. I didn't know there were online tutorials for it though and that makes it so exciting.

  7. Hooray for a finish to the landscaping project. Poor Frodo. I hope the weekend is more peaceful and without the barrage of fireworks that are going off in my neighborhood. I don't like them at all. Who thinks it is a good idea to let children and teens (or adults) ignite gunpowder? The shawl looks very delicate and pretty.

  8. I can see why you have been so distracted, your yard and wall are really looking good. I saw Hamilton last night, I was just amazed at how wonderful it was and how well every single person performed. It was brilliant. Stay safe.

  10. Can you imagine doing this sheltering without the Internet? I spent at least an hour today watching videos on how to use Inktense pencils on fabric.
One of our neighbors just put in a similar wall. I know I'm enjoying the quiet now that the wall is finished!

  12. Love the stone wall! I'm not even a gardener but I desperately want to plant things that will grow over the sides and hang down. Glad you and Frodo are finally getting some peace and quiet.
