January Days

In another universe I would be telling you I finished the second sleeve last night.  However, I was shy two rows before the cast off and I just had to quit for the evening. If I am tired, errors abound! So today after the dishwasher repairman comes to look at my one year old dishwasher (yes, so true), I will be blissfully finishing the sweater then soaking and blocking. Phew!

While I still have a shawl and a hat on my needles, I'm thinking of the next cast on project. I know that Kat has cast on a heartwarmer cowl which I have made twice before (one for me and one was a gift). My sister gifted me some lovely yarn during the holidays that will make a perfect cowl for me since this winter that seems to be what I wear the most.  There was someone else in our blog community that mentioned they were knitting this cowl pattern but I cannot remember who - please let me know in the comments!

I've been squeezing in more reading time during the day. The holidays and the wedding gave me little time to read and to be honest, I was focusing more on knitting.  While I can read and knit at the same time, I am not doing that anymore. I learned that multi-tasking raises cortisol levels and in the spirit of mindfulness and being IN the moment, I'm choosing to do one task at a time.

I'm all for less stress.

I hope these January days are keeping you busy. More light is entering our days. Have a great weekend!

  1. Good for you, knowing when to put down the knitting to avoid mistakes. When I grow up, I will do that too lol. Thanks for the heads up on cortisol and multi-tasking. I had not heard of that before. Now that I know, I will be more aware of it. Holly looks so pretty in the photo. Does she ever jump in your laps for love?

  2. Good luck with the dishwasher repair (I hope the problem isn't a part that will take 8 weeks to arrive) and enjoy finishing your sweater. I can't wait to see you wearing it!

  3. I think Vera is knitting the Heartwarmer cowl.

I'm all for single tasking these days too.

Good luck with the dishwasher. Hopefully, they will have it up and running like new today.

  5. Good luck with the dishwasher, they sure don't make things like they used to. Your sweater is so gorgeous and your art work is too. I always love seeing your sweet babies. Have a great weekend Karen!

  7. I know that multitasking is bad for the brain, but I do it all day at work. I'd have to work 20-hour days if I didn't. Five more months -- and they are going slowly.
Holly is definitely related to Kola.
I am so impressed with your sweater. It is beautiful.
I love that cowl, but it looks really hard!

  9. I LOVE the photos of Frodo and Holly (suspect you are WAY more patient than I am in capturing those "still" ;-) moments) Happy Weekend and I look forward to a sweater finish.

  10. When I started reading your post, I thought you were going to say you ran out of yarn; instead you did something reasonable, quit for the night! I almost bought that Heartwarmer a second time, but Rav said it was in my library, and so it was. Maybe I'll try that one; as you said, cowls are warm!

  11. Good for you for knowing when to call it a day. Tomorrow is another day. Since retiring, I have tried very hard not to do too much multitasking. That said I do knit while listening to a podcast or an audiobook. Holly and Frodo are so sweet. Have a good weekend.

  12. I love the sweater. The watercolor is very pretty also. I would love less stress and more down time right now. I try not to multitask anymore as it messes with my sleep at night. Enjoy the weekend.

  13. I am stalled on my knitting. Waiting for needles for my mittens and waiting to decide if I am going to unravel part of a sweater that is feeling a bit too baggy. And waiting for enough time to watch some sock knitting videos before I continue my first sock. Hopefully by next week I will be back on track.

  14. I am not knitting or crocheting as much as I would like, time seems so limited. I love the cowl idea, even if you have one in a different yarn it will look so different. Good luck and stay safe.

  15. Ooh, I like all the interesting sections of this cowl.
