Knitting News

I'm looking at my knitting for the past week and it doesn't seem like I've done much of anything. The photo above is the start of a Christmas stocking for the newlyweds for their home (yes, I am knitting for Christmas 2021....). I'll make two and stitch their names on each of them.  Then I'll make one for my house with my daughter in law's name on it for my collection.

I made these stockings for my daughter and son in law when they were married. My mother wrote out the pattern and so I cannot say where the original is from. I'm guessing from a long ago holiday issue of McCall's magazine. Maybe.

My pullover sweater is coming along quite nicely. I'm half way to through the body of the sweater. I love this project so much and it's a comfort to knit and have on my lap while watching TV in the evenings.

What are you working on this week?

  1. I'm knitting socks that will be a Christmas present in 2021! Never too early to start. Your sweater is coming along so nicely. Hoping your weather is as nice as ours!

  3. I have been working on my second sock and I ran into a goof on the heel so I put it away yesterday. I will get back to it today. Also back to working on my Porty Pullover and hope to finish in time to wear it before the weather becomes too warm - hint: I think I have plenty of time!

  4. I love that you're knitting for Christmas! Stockings are things to be treasured so I'm sure they will be loved. I'm selfishly knitting socks for myself, and may start another pair once I finish these.

  5. What a lovely keepsake for the newlyweds. Even lovelier that it is a pattern passed down from their grandmotherm

  7. Hi Karen,
You should definitely post a picture of your Mom's handwritten pattern...I'd love to see that...your stockings are really cute...and I agree with Martha...it's never to early to start on Christmas presents...

  8. Christmas stockings are a treasure. I used a pattern that my aunt knit for me in the 1950's. Your pullover is beautiful. I can see why you are enjoying it. I pulled out an old WIP, a shawl, but have some frogging and figuring out to do.

  9. I got a long round of colorwork knitting done a few days ago. I wish I had a circular that was a little longer so the design showed up fully for pictures.

  10. OH personalized Christmas Stockings are so lovely. Allison painstakingly knitted some for her cousin when she married. They were just beautiful. I've been sock knitting. :) I also have the faux cable lace cowl to finish. One involves counting, one does not.....guess which one I'm picking!

  11. It's never too early to start thinking about handmade Christmas gifts. You'll be fine when the rest of us are struggling to get things done. Hm, maybe I should be thinking about gifts already too?
I'm still figuring out what to make right now, something easy that I can just wing without much thinking (like the hats I love so much, but don't have any use for). I hope to cast on for a sweater soon, but I need to find some headspace to read the pattern.
