Personal Epiphany

This past week was my eighth week off of babysitting.  Can you believe it?  Eight weeks have flown by.  I've eked out the goodness of each day, I plotted what I would do with the precious 16+ hours I gained in my week.  The weeks have been glorious.

I remember when I had my first week off and I sat on my loveseat just basking in the luxury of an unscheduled day.  I loved that sense of boredom and the freedom of an entire afternoon just begging for all sorts of activities.

Yesterday I realized that all that free time is good when I have balance.

I don't like change of any sorts especially in my life but it seems there are potential changes on the horizon that I am not in control of and I spend way too much time plotting out the 'what ifs' and 'oh my' moments.  Nothing has changed .... except I have time on my hands to think about it.

My personal epiphany this week was realizing that summer break has been wonderful but I'm ready to go back to babysitting.  I'm ready to outwit a three year old and try to keep up with her activities.  I'm ready to take her on walks and fill her little mind with stories and a vast vocabulary of what we see and do.  This little job gives me balance in my life and now it's time to go back to work.

Another personal epiphany is knowing I can call a friend and talk for quite awhile about my imaginary 'what ifs' and feel so much better just knowing someone who cares for me is listening and understanding me.

Another personal epiphany is knowing that what I eat will reflect to how I feel.  If I eat too much sugar I feel like crap (why oh why do I eat it then??).  I have an overall healthy diet but honestly there is always room for improvement.

I've made it to August without majorly complaining about summer.  I don't like summer much but I try to see the beauty and take photos to share with you.  I am ready for some fall-like weather and I know I have a long wait.  Thankfully Mother Nature sprinkles my lawn with fallen leaves giving me tiny glimpses of hopefulness.

I have two more weeks off before I resume babysitting.  My husband and I are planning some day trips and staycations before the school year starts up again.   We have some tiny home improvement projects to work on as well.

In knitting news, I made the blanket to 36 inches and started to decrease.  Sadly I was doing the decreasing wrong and had to rip out about six precious rows to correct the error.  I am thankful I saw the mistake before the blanket was done.  That would have been really sad!

  1. So much in this post! I too am ready to "get back to a not-summer routine" I wrote in my journal yesterday that by this time every year I was so ready to go back to school! Those traits of childhood have stayed with me well! Good luck with your decisions - and your home improvements! Day trips sounds like a brilliant idea!

  2. Epiphanies are wonderful, especially when you realize you need balance and are working towards it in your life. I'm also ready to edge towards fall; the garden has been so productive that it takes a huge amount of time every day to deal with all the produce. I'll be glad to stop processing 5-gallon buckets of tomatoes, plus my freezer is almost full!

  4. Some good epiphanies. I am making August a start at paying better attention to the links between what I eat and how I feel. Enjoy the rest of your off work time.

  5. Nice post Karen. Like you, I am so ready for Fall - my favorite season. I'm enjoying the lessened daylight and we have actually had some coolish (relatively speaking) evenings. By August I was always ready to get back to school. I've been dreaming of comfort foods - soups and stews. Soon!! Enjoy your weekend. Some day trips to look forward to sounds very nice.

  6. Oh Im so glad you are ready to work again. . If you didn't love that job it would be very difficult. Im not ready for fall at ALL, but I do love that season. Sorry you had to rip out some rows, I understand! Today is what I'll focus on because yesterday began with worries, and by evening I was excited and thrilled to be helping out two friends.

  8. Thankfully I still have 4 weeks left to my summer. I am so not ready to get back into the school routine. I really do love summer mostly because I don't have to work. So sorry you had to frog some knitting. At least you hadn't gotten too far in your decreasing.

  9. My Summer is really just starting, as we travel down to England and start our babysitting duties with the Grandchildren. We are so excited we can hardly contain ourselves. 4 weeks of luxury spent pampering our loved ones and they us.

  10. I must admit I am not looking forward to fall because I know that the warm weather will continue, most likely, and it won't be cold for a while. I struggle with routine/worry/balance things too. The 'what if's' can haunt oneself sometimes... I find the only things that ultimately help are prayer and reading the Psalms/encouraging books ... friends can help too sometimes, I appreciate phone calls as well. God bless you!

  11. Nice to catch up with your news Karen. We're trying to enjoy the summer, it's been quite warm at times. We're doing some garden tidying and general decluttering everywhere. Yesterday we went to town for a smart jacket, trousers, shirts and tie for my son. He'll do 2 years at sixth form in September, we may go back and get a suit as well. It's smart business attire which is a bit formal but... that's the rules. Take care Cx

  12. It's important to let yourself go through all the bumps and detours until you find what's right for you. Interesting how a blanket pattern has decreasing in it.

  13. August is not my favorite month - weather wise but I am doing better this year at enjoying summer's offerings. I do love the fresh fruits and veggies but the pesky insects drive me nuts. The cowl is so pretty. I may make one for my sister for her November birthday. I love those epiphanies. It sounds like you have had a productive summer.
