Midway Advent

I posted the kids the Christmas presents from us and now I am ready. This is the first time I am ready for Christmas this early in December, I wanted my packages out before the week before Christmas because I worried that the mail/shipping companies would be overwhelmed. This Christmas is a simplified Christmas and we are ready to enjoy a different kind of celebration. While I'll be missing my kids, I will be joyful and thankful for all that we have.

Earlier this week we had some unexpected snow which was delightful to wake up and see. Most of the snow melted by mid afternoon and the snow didn't impact any plans. We are having a tiny warm up this weekend so I doubt there will be snow surprises.

I continue to do a daily sketch with some watercolors added. The paper is mixed media and sadly doesn't hold up well when lots of water is added. I knew this going in so I'm at peace with the warped paper.

Did you see my sweater in the top photo? I am giddy with excitement because tonight might be the night I set the sleeves aside and zoom through the body of the sweater. While working on my sweater, I think about the baby blanket I will be casting on soon. I'd like to start this blanket before the end of the year. I dug around my stash last month and found some lovely multi-purple cotton that will drape nicely with feather and fan stitch (if that is the pattern I end up using, I'm still mulling this decision).

We go for walks when the weather permits and we stay mostly home except for groceries. We are living a quiet life and it's peaceful.

  1. That last photo with just a couple of tire tracks does look peaceful and your sweater is beautiful! One of my sisters-in-law is a postmaster in a small post office and she says they are completely overwhelmed. They have so many packages being sent and delivered that they don't even have room for them and they are stacked up in giant piles in the back room. I'm crossing my fingers that I get a package I'm waiting for this week and Ryan receives the ones I sent him.

  2. Your sweater is so pretty. Do you think it will be done before the big guy in the red suit arrives? I did not notice the paper being warped from the water color. I just saw a beautiful piece of art featuring holly. According to our post office, all packages need to be mails by the 11th in order to arrive before the 'big' day. The photo with the snow looks so peaceful. I always loved how quiet the world got when snow was falling. It was so magical.

  12. What a peaceful post. A quiet life if a good kind of life. Your watercolor is lovely. The sweater is coming along well. I mailed my packages early last week. I wanted them to arrive on time and I didn't want my husband to stand in line with too many people.

  13. ...How nice that you got a dusting of snow...it's still mostly in the 60s here...so strange for December...but it's supposed to only be 39 on Wednesday...so more seasonable for Christmas...your painting and your sweater are beautiful!
