Around Here

I don't know about you, but January was glorious for me.  The quiet days slipping from one to another supported lots of creative time for me.  I hope February is just as good.  Around here we have no snow and after three days of sunny skies we are back to clouds and dreariness.  Thank you for your compliments on the hat and mittens I made the preschooler.  I started the bear hat last night.

I am having some issues with my right thumb hurting (too much knitting on double pointed needles).  I should give the hands a break....should.  But I really want to knit!  The RA doc thinks it's mild OA, I think it's a flare up and it will go away eventually.

If you remember last year my RA doctor retired (boo) and now I have a young doctor.  I saw her on Wednesday for a six month recheck, I am slowly forgiving my old doctor for leaving me.  This new one wants to re-diagnose me and so every time I have routine bloodwork every three months done she adds a few other tests.

I love her enthusiasm and curiosity.  I was diagnosed in the late 90's and the hospital didn't scan that information into my medical chart, I'm sure it's in a room somewhere in their basement.  Isn't that were we keep these things?

I'm not concerned because my medicines stay the same.

I've been thinking about menu planning and how I SHOULD menu plan around all the foods in my cupboards and in my freezer.  All it takes is for me to not knit and stay in the kitchen to inventory my foods, then plan away.  This task is on my eternal to do list.  And just think, that would rest my hands for some good joint health!

Sometime this month, we will be checking the calendar and setting up all the trips we'd like to do once the weather turns nice.  We have family we want to see and maybe some weekend trips for just us.  I'm not sure we will be doing a big family vacation since our son will be relocating somewhere and will most likely need our help.  A work vacation of sorts.

What I'm loving right now:

-silence in the early morning - hearing some birds at daybreak -  Frodo snuggles - Holly purring - BIG lunch salads! - soft wool in my hands - a clean kitchen - my new fridge - watercolor painting - friendships - phone calls from the kids - mighty to do lists -  pbs masterpiece theater - getting lost in a book - homemade pickles my dad gave me -

What are you loving right now?

  2. It seems a good thing, to have a new-to-us doctor, want to check everything out, for themselves, and become really familiar with us. Our Optometrist retired and my husband had first exam, with new-to-him Optometrist. He did a complete work up of my husband's eyes! He wanted to become fully aware of everything, for himself. And not just rely on other doctor's notes. I like that.

So I think it's a good sign, that you RA Doctor does the same. -smile-

Do you have access to the "cream" made from Hemp Oil? It is expensive, but we got a jar, and we use it, for when we get an ache or a pain in random joints. And it works.

Not all regular doctors, would speak of it, I suppose. Just saying... What has worked for us. We do not have diagnosed Arthritis... Just the bits here and there, which come and go, with 'old age.'

We _would_ use it, for "right-thumb-hurting", for sure! Which happens some times. -smile-

But you do what your doctor advises!!!!!

  3. Oh that bear hat is just going to be darling I know. Anxious to see it! Like Bonny, I love your blueberry watercolor. Lovely. And, you have a lot to love in your life right now - that is so good. We are trying to come up with an idea for a Spring camping trip. We have a few nuggets to mull over which is always fun. Also, I love your fox! Happy weekend. Hoping your thumb feels better. My fingers have been bothering me from (I think) too much knitting - BOO!

  7. Lovely post, lovely pics :) . I, too, think that it is good that your new doctor wants to check everything for herself. And who knows what a fresh look at it might bring ?
I just had a short staycation, didn't really do anything, but now on about my last day I finally did some cleaning & tidying ( meaning that some piles now just look neater, hahaha ). And I see we have the same thing on our eternal to-do list... ( have you managed a good menu plan yet ? I am still in procrastination...ahum.. )

  9. Thank you for this post Karen, I feel like I have been sat in your kitchen, with a cuppa, listening to you chatting away about what you have been doing. I am sorry to hear that you are having thumb pain, as a fellow knitter I get that pain is annoying, I do hope it eases for you soon.

  10. I love the look of that blue yarn and your blueberries too. I loved the sunshine and warmth today. This evening I predict I will love a cup of tea and sinking into a good book. Take good care of your hands - a little precaution goes a long way. I wish I had exercised some last week.
